BU 2021-22: Albie's Great Adventure

Nice to get a win or two but not much change in pretty even games against a weak team
Particularly discouraging was the third period last night getting outshot 18-3
Lucky to win
Has there ever been less anticipation for a BU-BC game that the one upcoming Friday night
Plenty of tickets available

Agree with all of this. I did think Commesso was the difference this weekend. Extremely solid and then some. I too was tired of the UNH mispronunciation of his name! Had a few guys finally get on the board. We seem to have had UNH’s number for a long time and always seem to play well up there. It was a very poor 3rd period for us, but 6 of 7 ok periods isn’t that bad. It seemed from the beginning of the period we were just trying to hang on to protect the 1-0 lead. Couldn’t manage much flow even on the large ice surface. Albie said they were gassed, especially guys coming back from injuries. I think that’s probably a fair statement.

The BC game doesn’t look entertaining on paper the way these team’s seasons are going. If we can manage a win, maybe we can get some positive energy going. I frequently fly up from Florida for this game, but not this year. I’ll watch on tv. Maybe the 2 in the second semester.

All in all a solid weekend against an average UNH team but every point is well earned in hockey East. It’s amazing when you play sold structured defense how you can win hockey games. Limit odd man rushes and breakaways and stay out of the penalty box and you win games!!!! I still think the team needs a more structured defense first style like Northeastern utilizes. BU isn’t going to put up 5 goals a game so play solid defense, let your goalie make the saves and win 2-1 games.

Agreed, except UNH is below average.

Nice for the players to get some Ws but there's nothing terribly positive to take from either game. UNH is a brutally unskilled and terribly coached team. And yet they still carried play for long stretches.

Anything that moves BU closer to giving Albie year 5 is a net negative for the program. Thus, the team winning games is bad for the program.

Two W's by a pedestrian team against another pedestrian team.

Switching gears from hockey for a moment - so, there's going to be a Kurt Warner movie? Do you think they'll show his loss to the BU Football team???? Ha ha ha - as if. What year was that - 1993? And who was the BU quarterback - I'm blanking on his name. That was a fun game. Ahhh, memories.

Agreed. If BU dominated & won convincingly both nights, or if BU had garnered 5 of 6 pts against a top team in HE, most of us would feel a bit better than "meh".

Appreciate most of our posters in this thread for keeping it "real" compared to some of the BU Hockey extremists (on both sides) who overrun the comments in tBHB...

Parity is at an all time high in Hockey East. Long gone are the days when any team could just show up and walk away with 6 points. Keep in mind BU has played a tough HE schedule thus far already facing the top 3 in UML, NU and UMass while not seeing Vermont or Maine. Long way to go. I really hope they adjust their style and play more aggressive and structured in the Dzone and stay out of the box - that's the key to winning for this team. Coaches should be recognizing it.

IMO this is a major source of frustration. The UMASS series and the 1st NU game were ones where they demonstrated more structure. It hasn't always been clear whether:

1. The coaching staff isn't fully aware that they need to make substantial adjustments to the team's style of play
2. The coaching staff is aware, but is not willing to adapt
3. The coaching staff is aware, is trying to adapt, but the players aren't buying in

Meanwhile, friggin Quinnipiac is the #2 team in the country. Get their coach. Buy both of his houses if you have to.

To me, it hasn't always been clear whether the coaching staff is aware, period. :):)

I just realized Brandon Yip is going to be an Olympian? Pretty cool, but the Chinese team is going to have an ugly tournament.

Lol..that made me laugh...when hockey generates the same revenue stream as top tier Div 1 BCS Football that might actually happen. Maybe in North Dakota where houses cost what...200k

Yip, who is in his second tour with Kunlan Red Star of the KHL, is likely to wear the C for China, which will be hammered by the U.S., Canada and Germany in the preliminary round. Herb Wakabayashi skated in three Olympics ('72, '76, '80) for Japan, which was on the wrong end of many lop-sided scores. (More about Yip on the blog).

Guessing you were directing us to the Zegras assist and not the Santa Ana Winter Village.

Asked what that move should be called, ESPN's Kevin Weekes said: "This is called 'The BU' 'cause he played his college hockey at BU for the Terriers." He also called it "the best assist I might have ever seen in the history of the National Hockey League."

He is playing for China? Not to be alarmist nor to get political…. But with all we hear about human right violations etc… how safe is it for him to be doing so?

The excitement for tonight's 285th edition of the Battle of Comm Ave. is palatable ;-)

Prior to 2020 I would've felt some combo of excitement / tension leading into any BU-BC game. All week I've felt indifferent. My strongest emotions are towards seeing them wear the throwback unis from BU's 1st season...
