The GQP Thread: I'm even sick of that fuck's number and, anyway, he's gone (for now)

We have tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people in DC fighting hard every day to prevent this. My wife is one of them. They are doing everything they can.

Don't throw up your hands and surrender to the Nazis, that's what they want. Plenty of us are fighting hard. We all do what we can, and many of us inside the machine are doing everything possible to preserve norms, rules, and laws.

It's not magic, it never was; it's work facing down the apes. It was always just good people fighting against bad people. That's not what changed. All that changed is the bad people took over the GOP and said the quiet part out loud: they want to end law and have governance by their whims and bigotries. Anybody who went to high school always knew these people were out there. So now we fight them. There's no reason to whine, we have a legitimate existential fight. If we win we'll be heroes and if we lose welp a thousand years from now historians will pick through the rubble and know somebody tried.

I agree. I don't know if that kind of thinking qualifies as learned helplessness, but while it is understandable, it is both dangerous and weak.

Anybody seen Jebbers lately?

A Trump administration aide who met with the House Jan. 6 committee this week unleashed a 27-minute inflammatory tirade, calling the lawmakers’ investigation into the Capitol riot racist against White people and using sexist slurs to describe his former colleagues who also testified.

Garrett Ziegler, a former aide to President Donald Trump’s trade adviser, Peter Navarro, revealed on his Telegram page that he appeared Tuesday before the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Hours later, Ziegler said without evidence that he was being targeted due to his race and posted a lengthy audio file calling the probe “a Bolshevistic anti-White campaign.”

“If you can’t see that, your eyes are freaking closed,” Ziegler said. The CEO of the Anti-Defamation League noted that Ziegler’s words are “often used as a code for Jews.”

“They see me as a young Christian who they can try to basically scare, right? And so, today was just a lot of saying that I invoke my right to silence,” Ziegler said, while insisting he is “the least-racist person that many of you have ever met, by the way. I have no bigotry.”

195 GOPers voted against guaranteed access to contraception.

I gotta admit this strategy by the Dems is perfect. 18 months too late though...

4/ The bill also removes an ambiguous provision in the 1887 law that Trump argued allows state legislatures to appoint their own electors if they judged there to be fraud in the election. Now, states won't be able to change the rules of how electors are chosen after the election.

OK but sounds like they could change the rules before the election and then it's totally cool.

I spend every fucking day of my professional life working hard to fight against the Nazis. That often encompasses all 7 days in the week. Today it was from 8 until 2:30, and then will kick off again at around 5 and go until around 10 or 11. I have not given up. I am skating hard until the final buzzer. But if you don't realize it is the third period with about 6 minutes left and we're down 4-1, and killing off a 5-3, you are hopelessly naive. I suppose our side could be the 2009 B.U. Terriers against the fascist Miami University. It's too bad the Democrats in congress are willing to fight about as hard as the 2004-2005 Fighting Irish.

I mean...yeah that is kind of how it all works. It was like that before Trump too and was one of the arguments he used for how he was getting screwed. "They changed the rules before the election because of COVID!!1!1"

The point is that the Leg cant overrule the vote or change the rules after the fact. It is their job to change them before.

Somebody who knows graphics and video editing should really make a Benny Hill moment out of Josh Hawley’s Capitol moment.

I love your wife, in spirit. Give her a hug and a thank-you from the people wondering why maintaining normal civility and a respect for the truth gets us thinly-veiled death threats from Trumpy coworkers nowadays.

The Dumpy id for bloodlust has always been there in about 25% of the total population. He simply encourages and emboldens them, and gives them a raison d'etre. Unfortunately, almost all of them vote with enthusiasm (at least, for Dumpy candidates). Meanwhile, centrists bothsides everything and either don't show up because they are Boomers who remember Tip O'Neil working with Reagan and are disillusioned with the lack of bipartisanship. Others just vote R because of taxes, or because their fascist neighbors have convinced them that The Squad represents the entire Democratic Party.

I talked to former D.C. police officer Michael Fanone outside the #Jan6thHearings. Here is his response to seeing video of Sen. Josh Hawley running away from rioters after fist bumping them earlier in the day on Jan. 6 : "Josh Hawley is a bitch", said Fanone.

After the hearing some crackpot Qucumbers starting harassing him. Questions they asked "why were you there on January 6th?" (you know at the Capitol as a Capitol officer) and "are you a real cop"?.
