BU 2021-22: Albie's Great Adventure

So how exactly does that go down in the standings?

Improved effort tonight. UMass is strong - quick to the open picks, strong and tough to knock off the puck. They looked to me like the more talented team. Could have been 3-1 at the end of 1 were it not for Comesso’s big save at the end of the first. Great team but we went toe to toe with them.

The 3 on 3 is gimmicky but fun. Fensore was nifty and buzzing in OT.

Crowd was decent and atmosphere was fun. Estimate 40% UMass fans?

Gotta keep it up tomorrow night.

Very entertaining hockey game. It was good to see O’Brien out there. He was BU’s best player.

Boucher’s first penalty was dumb and cost them a goal. The turnover that led to UMass’ second goal is the poster child of what good teams would have fixed already.

Overall, they didn’t suck. And the OT and shoot-out was fun. Good atmosphere. I don’t have high hopes for tonight.

BU Hockey: Moral Ties.

O'Brien and Tuch are both first line players, who have been greatly missed.

Boucher is an interesting case. He was drafted much higher than originally pegged because power forwards are a premium in the NHL. Those type of prospects often have a difficult transition to college hockey until they find their offense. He can break out, but he needs to play with a playmaker.

Progress! OBrien makes a huge difference. They really need tuch and brown back before we can really analyze how they will be. Tuch and Brown maybe the two best players on team. Boucher needs to be sat if he keeps taking dumb penalties. Enough already - you can’t give teams power plays at this level. Hopefully they play well tonight!

O’Brien is a difference maker for sure.

Perhaps the demise of coach has been overstated?

Hope they carry this energy into next weekend.

This weekend was an unexpected surprise.

What's not a surprise is how quiet this thread is. #NothingToBitchAbout : )

Commesso has a strong weekend. I'm also buying O'Brien stock.

BU Hockey: Not Dead Yet

The team had a better weekend. The coach's shortcomings are not overstated.

Agreed - they looked better in all three zones for the most part. Not sure if the whole team looking better has to do with getting a few guys back from injury - I tend to think not because who they got back in theory are not head and shoulders better than who filled in for them.

So, at this point I still think the underlying evidence is that the team hasn't been well coached for the past 3 years or so and Albie still has a long way to dig himself out of the situation. Time will tell; fingers crossed we have more weekends like this one than the previous ones.

The past 2 games were a pleasant surprise. Liked the compete level, there was more structure to the d-zone coverage and on the forecheck, not as many mistakes.

O'Brien was best player both nights. Peterson and Armstrong on 3rd line also had strong games. Commesso played very well after a rough outing @ NMU.

Still a long ways to go in terms of continuous improvement. Let's see how they fare if they're at full health (re: Brown, Tuch back in lineup) and against better teams (NU, Cornell, BC).

Can we play UMass every weekend? ;)

For whatever reason, the Minutemen have brought out the best in BU's game the past couple years. And they have been entertaining games, to boot.

Pleasantly surprised with the effort this weekend. I'm wondering if its because they were playing the defending champs and that inspired the team a bit despite the problems with the head coach. Before Albie gets a contract extension, let's see if they can build on this. We are after all still 1-4-1 in the last 6 games....

Interesting that Copeland has been playing on defense recently. Thought he played well and is a conservative stay at home type
Never saw the ice his first two years-

Quiet couple of days after a better than expected weekend results-wise...

Is anyone here going to Red Hot Hockey? My understanding is that ticket sales for BU are quite sluggish. Is interest in RHH be bottoming out, impacted by the team's performance this year as well as in recent years?

I think all the message boards are quieter than normal....parity across college hockey so no fans are confident in what team will show up any given weekend. RHH sales may be down because of the rules in NYC regarding covid. Very strict.
