But eventually even middling people will tweak to the fact that their blind emotional response is being weaponized, and that's what is evergreen. Yes, the dumbest will always fall for it, but they also play the lottery -- they don't matter. What has mattered in the lifecycle of each moral panic is that at first even normal people either (1) cannot engage their brain because they are so angry, and/or (2) will go along with the witch burning for fear of being accused themselves.

"Communist" carried every bit of that blind hatred and terror in its day, as did all the various infidel flavors in theirs. If your immortal soul is threatened, well, what else could possibly matter?

Eventually, they go to the wall so often the accusation loses its presumption of guilt. People (again, above the median) realize that while there is a real phenomenon, the accusation is statistically more likely to be slander to gain political advantage. And then we settle down and evaluate accusations rationally, which means the tool no longer works for the liars. They in turn move on the next target: the insidious menace of leprechauns.

I don't think we're there yet. 91% of mothers of children under 15 flip the switch from "think over rationally" to "nuke from orbit" when the topic surfaces. Even ones from colleges without a nationally-ranked football team.

That poison is still lethal among most people. It will take time for the public to, so to speak, grow up.

Well I wasn't saying he didn't deserve it...but even 15 years ago he laughs it off and nothing happens because The Crown buries it.

Pedophilia is how they convince honest people to kill or destroy others...the accusation makes you a monster of the highest order and the majority will always believe you did it even after you are exonerated. There are documentaries about it. Hell it was the one thing Old Pio and I ever agreed on.

It isn't just Trumpers and Q believers who buy this stuff and if you honestly think that you aren't paying attention.

I mean, it had to have a tinge of believability, which is why the sex ring in tge basement of a pizza parlor in bfe America didn't work. But a direct allegation against any male in the public eye could easily bring them down. The accusation alone makes you guilty.

I have a buddy who used to manage a restaurant. One day the cops show up and take him in. The parents of one of his workers found a journal she wrote detailing a pretty intense sexual relationship they had and went to the cops. The girl had major drug issues along with emotional issues but that was all ignored the second they read the "diary". The cops interrogated my buddy for hours (he was an idiot and didn't have a lawyer present but thankfully it all worked out) trying to get him to admit it but none of it was true so he had nothing to admit. As soon as the girl realized what was happening she admitted it was all a lie but still no one believed him. It took her having a full on mental breakdown and being committed (not the first or second time) for the parents to finally see the truth. Since this happened rather quickly (and in a time before Twitter) the story never broke the way it could have but he had a very real concern he would be fired (it was a corporate place) and be unhireable. It didn't help that the cops made sure to tell him that the entire time he was being investigated. If she had been 12 instead of 15/16 it is 10 times worse.

Pedophilia is every parents worst nightmare, often spurred on by sensationalist stories in the media that make it sound like a Pedo lives on every block. Throw in the Church scandal and people seem to default to believing anyone who spends time around kids must in fact have an ulterior motive.

For those questioning ask yourself this: what is the first thing you think when you hear a story about a possible Pedo...without any evidence or context you just hear "Person X might be a creeper who enjoys small children". What is your gut reaction? For most it isnt "well lets wait and find out the truth".

I react to pedo charges the way Republicans react to (white suspect) rape charges. I'm not saying it's healthy, but it's so obvious the powerful and their LEO lackeys use pedo as the new "communist!" to destroy people in their way.
