I'm not talking specifically about Handy's obsession with Maggie.

I'm pretty sure that if you were to check out the past posts of Handy and Kep and maybe a few others on this site, you'd find multiple posts attacking the NYT and other mainstream media. I'm also pretty sure I'm not going to be the one to go back and look for them, because I really don't care.

I don't claim they attack the NYT or other mainstream media for the same reasons as Trump, although I have private opinions on that.

I also don't care if people like or don't like the NYT, or other mainstream media. My personal opinion is that it's not as bad as it's sometimes made out to be on this site, and certainly not as bad as Trump makes it out to me.

As I said, I personally just find it amusing.

Who's calling "fake news"?

Any criticism from this side has more to do with their failure to actually report the real stories, not that what they do report is stuff critical of "our side" and we don't like that, so we'll just call it "fake news"

My "attacks" on the NYT are that they choose their points of emphasis based on what comfortable upper middle class Northeastern whites like me want to read about. I do not equate their "sanitized for your protection" Ivy perspective with the outright fabrications of the Rightwing Yokel media.

The NYT is like the Democratic party. In a perfect world we would methodically capture them and turn them into a force for good, but it's not a perfect world. We are up against fascists, and we need to ally with comfortable, smug centrists and everybody else to defeat the existential threat of Mordor.

Having done which, we'll be coming for the West Wing types, next.

America will be a safe and happy place to live again when our two major parties are the current moderate capitalist nice front lawn Democrats and a "lunatic" Left who would ensure the homeless are taken care of before rich people can have their tenth home. You know... radicals!

The problems are the Libertarians. Every time Bill Maher has one on and showers them with affection I want to puke.
 
I think the complaints about Haberman and the NYT is that they trade integrity for access. That's not at all the same as the whiny MAGA complaints about literally everything that doesn't sufficient blow the former guy

I have a soft spot for Libertarians because I was a young STEMLORD once myself. I believe they have the power to evolve into human beings. They have good logical skills. They just have to realize that logical positivism was buried with its own contradictions 72 years ago when Quine published The Two Dogmas of Empiricism in 1950.

Yes. In the sin of Access Journalism the NYT is the same as the three senile networks and CNN and MSNBC. That sucks, and it contributes to their corporate owners' agenda of maintaining the status quo, but it's not the same as the outright lying of the Right.

I don't claim that the motive or methods of MAGA/Trump are identical with those of people here, like Handy and Kep. Also, I don't claim that Handy or Kep advocate for hanging journalists.

It is the implied message that is same -- Do not trust what you read in the mainstream media.

I gotta stand up for the actual journalists here. There is good journalism being done by the "mainstream media." The problem you have is with talking head panelists who do editorials and opinion pieces that you mistake for "mainstream media."

Tucker Carlson, Bill O'Reilly, Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, et al. Those are entertainers who discus news topics and interject opinion into it.

You, hell, we all, need to do better in saying no to the bullshit entertainment and yes to actual journalism.

You're admitting it's not the same thing while still trying to squeeze in a gotcha of, "It's all the same". The "implied message" would only be the same if you're not paying attention.
 
No. The messages are these:

The Right: Don't trust the media, they lie. They're corrupt, and should be imprisoned.

The Left: Media, do a better job.

That you don't see that is the problem. But you're a good little German. I'm sure our fascist overlords will treat you specifically, kindly.

You can trust mainstream media to be factually correct the vast majority of the time. You just have to watch out for things they leave out.

As compared to any right wing media, which outright lies non stop.

So no, the implied message isn't the same.

It’s too bad rich white folks from the Northeast ever think libertarianism is the way to go. Us down-to-earth Midwestern folk are smart enough- logical enough, if you will- to vote Democrat from day one.
Maybe you can develop some kind of training program for these young, haughty elitist STEMlords to go from being ineffective dipsh-ts to functioning members of society.
