D1 Coaching Changes

Anyone know what’s happening with the coaching staff at Maine? Local news says the coaches have resigned but there is nothing on the university website.

I don't think SIDs work weekends in the summer so you may not see anything until tomorrow.

I don't think SIDs work weekends in the summer so you may not see anything until tomorrow.

If it's a full-time job then they work in the summer. At Maine, who knows?! Isn't this an underfunded program historically when compared to other D1 programs?

Here's something from an online story I just found:

"Fox/ABC Sports was told that the general council for the University has been in communication with the Reichenbach’s attorney, Kelly Hoffman, regarding the matter. Multiple sources also say equity issues could be at play."

I'm hearing one of the top DIII head coaches is departing for a new gig, a DI assistant job.

EDIT: I previously speculated this person might have left to be part of the new staff at Maine when I first posted this and updated with new info.

I used bestplaces.net's Cost of Living scores that use 100 as the nationwide average and looked up what I think is every D1 school in the east region (apologies if I forgot anyone). Maine ranks 28th of the 35 schools I looked up.

Regarding the scores, if the number for a school is above 100, the difference is the % above the national average. If the number is below 100, the difference is the % below the national average. For example, Boston is 162.4 so the cost of living in Boston is 62.4% higher than the national average. Orono, ME is 90.1 so the cost of living there is 9.9% below the national average.

Kelly Nash has named her Riveters teammate Nora Maclaine as her assistant coach at LIU. Maclaine played for UConn at as a collegiate player and played pro hockey in Australia prior to joining the Riveters last season. She has coaching experience with the Ironbound and Boston Shamrocks programs.

They are only 12ish miles away, kinda like Rodentapolis and St. Paul, right?

Don't ever consider Potsdam and Canton to be the same. Never, ever do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't care how damn close they are.

And if you think I'm offended. Well, I am!!!!!!! :-)

I find it very interesting that Rochester has a cost of living equivalent to Potsdam and Canton. Considering I went to school in one and currently live in the other, I find that hard to believe.

LOL........After some research......St. Lawrence and Clarkson, schools with D1 college hockey teams, are 12 miles apart? How cool is that? WOW, how fun. I'm learning lots of eastern college hockey geography. Out west there are SO many miles between schools.

New exception: U of M and St. Thomas.

Megan Quinn returns to Syracuse, her alma mater, as an assistant coach. She spent last season as the assistant coach at DIII school SUNY Oswego

Yeah but those 2 combined are not the caliber of St. L and the Fightin' Nurses combined.

I added the WCHA schools in and the most expensive place to live in that conference in Minnesota, with the city coming in 16th in DI/II at 106.5. No other WCHA school comes in above the national average (a 100 score), with St. Thomas in St. Paul just below that mark at 99.7 [TABLE="width: 313"]

Yeah but those 2 combined are not the caliber of St. L and the Fightin' Nurses combined.
Consider BC. All of the other Boston schools are closer than the "magic" 12 miles. (Interestingly enough, all six of those Eastern teams -- SLU, Clarkson, BC, BU, NU, and Harvard -- have played for an NCAA Championship.) Beyond that, BC has several other programs -- Providence, Brown, Merrimack, Holy Cross, UConn, Saint Anselm, Franklin Pierce, UNH -- under a 100 miles, and others like Yale, Quinnipiac, Post, and Dartmouth within 150 miles.

None of which has anything to do with D-I coaching changes.
