That's been Dump's bit all his life, right? He racks up a billion in debt and then declares bankruptcy. His creditors settle for pennies on the dollar to get anything back. He runs out of creditors in the US so he goes to Germany. And then to Russia.

Dump (and the GOP) live by the conservative Golden Rule: never steal anything small.

This is a little different though...he pulled that gambit and won the right to pay later. DB said they were done dealing with him because he sued them and defaulted. He still owed the money though. Kushner then used his wealth manager there to convince the board to loan him more money, which he then used to pay back the loans he had with them. (to the tune of I think $90 million) Then he took out other loans to pay back other things. So he borrowed money from one department in DB to pay back loans he owed (even after suing) to a different department within DB. They basically refinanced him after he sued them, now he is delaying paying on the refinancing as well. (payments due in 2023 and 2024 and he will never pay them)

The hedge fund involved lost IIRC like $90 million on the deal as well BEFORE taxes and fees. And they havent been able to take the building either which was part of the deal with both DB and the Hedge Fund.

And he personally guaranteed the debt which meant he had to put it on his taxes...but also meant he could offset it with losses in other parts of his business. That is why he never paid any taxes on any of it.

The current banking system is so rigged it is ridiculous and what Hovey said is correct. If we miss a house payment or a car payment there are penalties. If we default we lose the property and our credit rating is crap. Trump had been burning DB and other banks for decades, they knew he was going to do it again and they did it anyways and it blew up in their face. (and if conspiracy theories are to be believed caused Kennedy to retire because his son was pulling shady deals) Meanwhile he lost nothing and used that Chicago Property to beef up his ratings on his show and talk about his successes. All the while millions can barely afford anything because of crippling student loan debt while the banks get bailed out for stupid crap like this.

Note: This info came from the Times article I posted last night...if I got anything wrong it is cause I read it at like 1am and I did not intend to misrepresent anything.

Who did Nazi this coming?

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit signaled its willingness to revive Minnesota’s Election Day deadline for the receipt of mail-in ballots, undoing a seven-day extension that the state agreed to as part of a consent degree in a separate state court case.

The appeals court strongly implied that it would ultimately remove from the final presidential count any late-arriving ballots, as it ordered election officials to separate ballots out that arrived in the period previously covered by the consent decree.

The Minnesota legislature set a deadline by which votes must be received in order to be counted. That is the law in Minnesota.

Some left wing groups sued the Sec of State and said, basically, "we'd really like you to keep counting after the election, as they come in." The Sec of State is democrat. So he said, sure, I'll do that and entered into a "consent decree" to settle that lawsuit.

Well, guess what. He doesn't get to decide that. The legislature does.

I saw this last night. I am in awe they got Helen Mirren - DAME HELEN MIRREN - to play the part of Billy Bush.

If you ever get a chance see her 1978 Rosalind in As You Like It. One of the most beautiful performances in movie history.

It's a start.

What would actually be a start is if they get sick enough to be hospitalized. I have covid and by the grace of whoever or whatever you believe in, it is extremely mild. The worst part of all of it by a country mile for me has been remaining isolated. I am grateful that that has been the extent of my "suffering." I can assure you any MAGAt who somehow finds out they have COVID-19 but is experiencing no symptoms or mild symptoms like me is NOT isolating. Their lives have not been impacted at all, and in fact a worse thing is happening as they are among the "see we told you it isn't that big of a deal" crowd.

I hate to say it (well, no I don't) but if you want a real start, they need to be on ventilators and/or dying. Sort of like when your favorite college football team has the a coach you hate, but every year they win from 5-8 games. Probably never gonna get fired. You need a couple of 2-10 years to ensure a change is made.

Bless your heart.

1. We have a common law concept in the US called the "mailbox rule," which applies to contract law. It states that acceptance of a contract takes effect once the letter is posted, or placed in the mailbox. This decision is in direct conflict with that. It's not exactly the same thing, but it would not be any kind of unreasonable leap to say that as long as the vote was posted before the due date, it should be accepted.
2. This is something that should have been decided weeks ago. Now, we have this scenario where people were working under the rules as they were, mailed their ballot Wednesday or yesterday, and they won't get there in time. Now they have to scramble to figure out if there's a way to make sure their vote will count because the courts just potentially nullified their votes.

I wonder why conservatives are afraid of the people being allowed to cast their vote?

My reply ended up in the Congress thread, huh. Like I said- I hope it ends up not counting military absentee voting. They were told it was the post mark date, and you know the two right wingers who filed suit love the troops

You want to know what I wonder? I wonder why all these liberals with these huge brains we keep hearing about have such a surprisingly difficult time with a very, very simple task: Pick up ballot, make choice, deliver ballot before election day deadline. It doesn't get a lot easier than that. I mean if you can't even navigate that problem, do we even care that much that your vote might not count?

I don't really give a ratsazz about the "mailbox rule." If the Minnesota legislature wanted to adopt the "mailbox rule" as the election rule in this state, they would have done so. They didn't.

Let me switch it around for you. Let's say that instead of a Democrat in the Sec of State's office, it was a Republican. Let's further assume a Republican group sued the Sec of State arguing that ballots shouldn't be counted unless they are received at least one day before election day, and the Sec of State decided sure, sounds good to me. You'd be ok with that change in the law made unilaterally by the Secretary of State? I think we know the answer.

I'm a Cornell fan. I dream of 5-win seasons.

Bang on. Other than the military there is no good reason not to have your ballot in on Election Day. I say that with the caveat that this assumes you are sent your ballot in a timely manner.

I would. This isnt about party it is about counting the votes. If I mail my ballot today but it gets delayed by no fault of my own why should my vote not count? Same holds true for you, my Trumper friend, the moron I know who jokingly wants to vote for Kanye...all of them. The right to have your vote counted is higher than all rights period...full stop. Personally I think all votes should be counted until the EC has to be convened.

Now personally I would say they would be better off just driving it out and dropping it off (or just voting in person) but they arent committing some crime by mailing it a few days before the deadline but the Right is basically going to piss on their votes even though they did it the right way. How is that ok with you?

If a post mark date is good enough for the IRS why isnt it for the GOP?

You like to pretend we are the ones playing party politics here but only one party is asking for votes to not be counted. Well sorry but facts again dont back that up. And they are using a Pandemic to push it even farther because they just cant be be bothered to let the voice of the people actually decide who is in charge. (or they change the power structure after the fact because they are sore losers)

There's a reason even the IRS allows "late" filings as long as the post mark is by the deadline. I don't know why this would be so different.

At the same time, we could eliminate this as an issue by allowing early voting everywhere, ballot drop-off locations that are actually readily available (ahem, Texas) and a national decision on when mail-in ballots will be accepted.
