Covfefe-19 The 12th Part: The Only Thing Worse Than This New Board Is TrumpVirus2020

I have no medical knowledge so how would I know, but my layman's impression is the vaccines have been essentially a miracle in roll out, effectiveness, and lack of negative side effects. This seems even more impressive to me since apparently the mRNA vaccine methodology is fairly new. Add in that early development overlapped with the utterly inept and downright malevolent Republican administration. The scientists must have worked tirelessly both on the science and to shield it from the stupidity and virulence of Dumpy lackeys and conservative politicals, the equivalent of prisoners organizing a break out from a POW camp.

Honk^

Did you think you would be receiving 4 vaccinations in one calendar year?

Given the data, the vaccine is incredible. Noting how bad Delta was, I'm sure someone will extrapolate the data to the entire population had there not been a vaccine. So I would totally support the idea that the vaccines have been a miracle- from both a timing and effectiveness standpoint.

The part that I kind of didn't quite expect is the vitriol against tha vaccine, given that dumpy very much took credit for it last year. I know the virus has been a political issue for most of it's time, but I didn't think that it would so sharply be so party line.

The result of that, given the vaccination effectiveness, isn't really that surprising. People are finding excuses to keep people sick and dying. And we really have no idea what the long term impact will be on the deep red areas where the healthcare system is so strained.

"Effectiveness" = 32x less likely to be hospitalized and 20x less likely to die

Interesting that the trends keep up so well, with the new variant.

And I'm still looking for data that the extra dose is actually required. I'm taking it, sure, but the field data where massive amounts of breakthrough is happening for the unboosted.

Couple random questions for everyone...have the vaccines over or underperformed your expectations and how do you feel about the Covid situation now versus a year ago?

Anyone who says "under" literally knows nothing about vaccines. Like, these are going to go down as some of the most safe and efficacious vaccines in the history of mankind and they were developed in under a year during a global pandemic. (Edit: and as Kepler pointed out, they had a dictator in charge with people who gave zero fucks about it and the people who would die as a a result.)

It's a fucking shame that the Nobel prizes can only be given to three people because there are thousands of people who deserve an assload of credit for this. They have saved an incalculable number of people.

I think the situation is just mediocre. We had a one year late start thanks to Dump. But we should have had testing in place nationally by now. We're starting to, to Biden admin's credit, but it took way too long.

I still don't see how more testing will change anything at this point. The behavior of the anti won't be changed at all, they will still go out scoffing at vaccines and and safety measures the rest of us are taking. And they will continue do get sick and die.

Which is also the main reasons I don't see other measures doing anything- like theoretical lock downs. The people who would do it are already doing their best to reduce exposure and know before going to meet people. And the anti people will just organize potentially violent actions to stop any restrictions.

Testing certainly will help people who understand the seriousness of this- but given the statistics, we are not the problem. By a pretty massive margin.

Because small changes in exponential functions yield massive changes. Not trying to be flippant. It’s just hard to overstate how powerful that function is with an R0 around 10.

Vaccine has WAY overperformed expectations.

There is zero change in all cause mortality this year compared to last.

If there was an effective measure you would be able to observe a difference in all cause.

In addition to that, you have needed 3 shots not 2, they were never sold as that initially. And certainly not a 4th which is looking more likely.

They were sold as eliminating infection, that is a complete farce.

And in regards to Covid metrics, cases and deaths are higher. So the magic vaccine couldn’t even put a dent in those metrics.

Finally, Covidians while boosted are still wearing masks and acting like freak shows. Far from “normal.”

The majority of the public has lost respect and faith in the “public health officials.” Only a handful of zealots will get their 4th shot we know that based on how few are getting a booster.

Covidians like Covid because it has given them a sense of purpose. Its over. It’s best to move on with your life and start the repair.

This about sums it up.

The fact that the new vaccines technology will have uses beyond just COVID is even better. The vaccines are proof that the underfunding of STEM for most of my life was damned near criminal. When educated and experienced people are put in situations like this we are exponentially better off. And with the way we are destroying this planet there will be more threats...

This also showed us why political leaders should never be allowed to decide how to deal with stuff like this. Shut your mouths and name some post offices let the experts handle it.

That's what I don't understand- how would it alter the R number at this point? A vast majority of people testing positive are unvaccinated, so testing will likely have no impact on them- as they are clearly not changing behavior. Even if they are sick, they will continue doing stuff.

Heck, people continue doing stuff that are vaccinated and have been testing- seeing the cases on cruise ships- a lot of those are people not willing to get tested when they have symptoms, as they are afraid of ending their trip. Even though IF they get infected, the cruise line will literally repay them for the lost part of the cruise AND send them home on their own plane.

After having it first hand, I am glad I was vaxxed because it seemed to have lessened the symptoms, especially in my wife who I feel would have needed a hospital trip if she wasn't. Instead, she had two days of feeling like a** with zero energy and bounced back. .

A co-worker (also vaxxed) who caught it before the holidays said he still went out grocery shopping and Christmas shopping despite feeling sick, and if I could have used AT&T to reach out and b*tch slap him for being part of the problem, I would have.

People don’t want to be told they have to stay home for 2 weeks if they feel fine but have the sniffles. They also have protected themselves and feel that they are no longer going to go out of their way to protect those who are stupid enough to not get vaccinated.
