Oh, I'm sorry, I must have missed where this transportation bill demanded that the Gateway Arch be renamed the Hugo Chavez Freedom Arch in exchange for federal bridge repair money statewide.

Josh Hawley is what you get when Pete Buttigieg is born straight, autocratic, and given a $200 salon cut. He's the fascist right's new Mitt Romney (and I bet he'll have just as much success at becoming POTUS).

With the Bipartisan Bill coming up for a vote likely this week it sounds like Schumer is already getting the Reconciliation Bill ready to go. Schumer is wasting no time...

I think Schumer’s plan all along has been to get everything finished and/or started before the August recess. September 15 is the date I read Schumer wants every committee to have their piece of legislation written and ready to go for the budget reconciliation bill.

Well another $3 trillion is coming unless Sinema and Manchin nuke it.

I don’t think Manchin will nuke it. Trim it down? Yeah, he might. I think Sinema will trim it more than Manchin though. I guess we’ll see come September. Smart move by the GOP senators to make this bipartisan. The Dems would have hammered home the lack of GOP support during the midterms if no one backed it.
In somewhat quieter news, Democrats cut out the debt ceiling limit from the budget proposal. With McConnell saying “Democrats are in complete power, they don’t need our help raising the debt ceiling”, it’s going to be a game of chicken come the end of September. Schumer is daring him and Republicans to shut down the government over it. Where you at, Ted Cruz?

The debt ceiling is idiotic and should be eliminated. It doesn't mean what people think it means and only exists to help the Nazis.

Yeah it is a trap...it is meaningless and is only there to act as a scare tactic. Let them whine about it most people won't be listening.

psych,

I agree. Manchin knows a LOT of that money is headed to WV so he will be lighter on the cutting than normal. Plus I am guessing he cut a deal with Schumer that he wouldn't get in the way (when it comes to the final vote obviously) as long as Schumer puts his weight behind the Bipartisan measure. Same deal in reverse to what the House Dems will do with the Bipartisan Bill. (which they threatened to kill if Reconciliation wasn't happening...which it is)

I would hope Sinema would keep her trap shut because she was just handed a huge win (she was kind of the face of this on the Dem side) but we will see if her ego allows that. I don't care if she trims some of the fat but if she gets in the way on the major issues it could get ugly.

Either way the big winner in this is:

Rep. Ron Kind of Wisconsin announces he won’t seek re-election, which is a huge blow to Democrats. I think only he could win his current seat, so with him retiring, that’s a likely R pick-up.

He also had a tweet about Orwell that went over well. It is cute when Right Wingers use Socialists to try and explain their points. Extra points cause Orwell was Anti-Fascist!
