US Foreign Policy 3.0: We're The Mets of International Diplomacy

Very important tactic by the protesters: ubiquitous Israeli flags. There is no way to spin this as anti-Israel. It's pro-Israel, anti-fascist.

We need to learn that lesson here. We are the Americans. The fasc are just a cancer.

Anybody: what does "64" mean? I've seen signs several times during the protest.

reddit answered: 64 is the Likud coalition number of seats. I don't know if the signs are pro-Likud ("Election have consequences!") or anti-Likud and aspirational ("270 to win").

The problem is the other side doesn't match up with their beliefs at all. They are so fractured there it is hard to even know who is aligned with who. I tried doing research and I got a headache.

Yeah I won’t claim to know the solution either. I just hope that fascism loses, because I’m with anti-fa, from the comfort of my couch.

D’oh. Makes sense. Too clever by half with my reference to the raising of the French retirement age to 64. I think I read that Likud’s portion of the coalition won only 32 of those 64 seats, but the rest of the coalition parties were even smaller and more right-wing than Likud, so, yikes.

Grizzled, elderly veteran of the Six Days War down in the streets protesting, explaining in heavily accented English how he will do what he can to protect democracy... in a U. Michigan hat.

Remember the Raid on Entebbe? The one soldier who was killed -- that was Bibi's brother.

From my new Israeli friend on reddit, the signs are from the much smaller pro-Likud counter-protest which has now mingled with the original protest, which seems... not great.

So, um, we're cool then, right?

I mean I guess it's better than nothing as it does removal the war powers that authorized the last one, so we couldn't get go back there on the thinnest of whims (I mean we still could on a somewhat thin whim, but not, like, a super-thin whim, so progress!), but it's the only better than nothing by the slightest of margins.

Finland joins NATO- https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/30/europ...ntl/index.html

Makes me feel more relaxed to visit my distant homeland in a few years.

(well, it's not official yet, but now that Turkey has voted it's a matter of some details)

Should be remembered that Finland asked to join, not that NATO recruited them. Once again, vlad's total lack of appeal to their neighbors have turned them west.

NATO membership was unpopular in both Finland and Sweden until Putin openly attacked Ukraine last March.

Also, let's remember Josh Hawley voted not to permit Finland to join. The Senate vote was 95-1.
