Fascinating. As Ukraine's application for EU membership is fast tracked, Bosnia-Herzegovina insists they have to go in at the same time or Russia will destabilize them.

So not only is there a rush for NATO membership for protection, there is now a rising tide pressing the peripheral nations to join the EU.

Putin may wind up unifying Europe more effectively than Robert Schuman, Altiero Spinelli, or Walter Hallstein.
 
Interesting for several reasons.

1. Germany has gone through a quick metamorphosis and now seems to be just another European country with regard to heavy weapons support.

2. The policy of moving German weapons to former "fringe" countries (Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania) who then move their old WARSAW Pact weapons to the new fringe (Ukraine, Moldova) is itself rolling the wave of the West further East. In a way, Putin was right -- the EU and NATO are encircling him. But they only had the ability to sway their public opinion because of Russia aggression.

3. Ukraine gets some kickas-s heavy AA. Russian planes will have to fly higher, be less accurate and less lethal to UA defenses.

While it's accurate that the EU and NATO are encircling him, how much of that is a direct result of vladdy's actions? I don't see Sweden and Finland doing anything had vlad offered a better partnering option to Ukraine. Heck, maybe they would have even expanded trade with Russia. But when vlad decided to invade Ukraine, the clear threat to border Russia has become pretty obvious.

There was ONE outcome that was inevitable with this invasion, and it's happening. This is ALL vlad's fault. All of it.

It's also hilarious that Russia is complaining that the west wants to see Ukraine fight- duh. As if ANY country wants to see a bully roll over a neighbor. Had that happened, the far right in this country would be more than willing to invade Mexico or any Central American country for "reasons". We can't let them get a foothold in the idea of conquest of North America.

On our front, it's horrific that we don't do anything to prevent the instability to our south, which is forcing the migrants to come to the only "stable" country they can walk to. Only to be faced with the US attitude to anyone of color. And the truly sad thing about this- there are thousands of potential workers between the Rio Grande and the Panama Canal that would make shipping much shorter than China. Which would totally stabilize the situation in every country south of us. And we still don't do it.

So it's important to contain vladdy so that the next dumpster can't do the same thing.
 
And to think, I was laughed at by some when I said years ago Russia can't handle any sort of real war. They have tecno-war down great but they had neither the supplies nor the soldiers to handle any sort of fight with the West. I mean this doesn't even qualify as embarrassing anymore...its pathetic.

I can honestly say, even The Orange Fuckwit couldn't have screwed up this badly...outside of maybe joining in the battle with Putin if he was still President.

Listening to a former KGB operative run government whinge about the West supplying weapons is laughable. What do you think has been going on for the past 75 years? The weapons didn't grow on trees in Southeast Asia, Cuba, or the Middle East. This is what nation states do. It's not our fault that you can't beat up your next door neighbor

I won't link to the drek, but Noam Chomsky wrote a piece recently, arguing that Ukraine should grab its ankles and allow Russia to win in order to preserve Ukrainian lives.


The dude has been useless for... ever, but my god.

Chomsky sucks and I saw when he tweeted that even half his sycophants rolled their eyes at his stupidity.

Chomsky is bizarre, that's the only way to describe it. Dude takes a particular logical line and follows it ad absurdum. If the Right tried to design a Strawman Lefty to p-ss off 90% of the country in a lab they could not do better.

Nobody hates this phenomenon more than the Left.
