My rule of thumb for HIPAA: If someone who isn't in the medical data field says HIPAA does "X", it usually does the opposite.

HIPAA just means* you can't give out PHI without consent (and there are limits on that limitation) or when required by law.

swan is literally in the med data administration iirc. His word is as close to gospel as it gets on this board.

The first thing to remember about HIPAA is that it only applies to covered entities; think medical providers and insurance companies and thats 99 percent of them. In fact, although your State's health services department is probably a hybrid entity (parts covered and parts not) the public health division is probably not subject to HIPAA, as there is a public health exception. Your state medical record privacy statutes may or may not be a different matter. This is not legal advice and I am not your lawyer.

The Covid Gospel Zombie doesn’t even understand how a PCR test works.

To help the economy, sure. But to BE the economy is something else- according to this- https://datausa.io/profile/geo/bar-harbor-me of the ~1000 employed in Bar Harbor, the largest sector is Accommodation and Food Service with just over 230 people, and then Retail Sales of 148. Forgive me for thinking that most of that is to support tourists. Which is to say that largest sector of the economy of Bar Harbor is tourism by employment.

Which is what happens when you are parked next to a National Park.

that doesn’t seem very accurate.

There are 1500+ people employed in biomedical research in Bar Harbor and probably more than that working in tourism, but other than local B&B and restaurant owners, most of those are seasonal workers (often foreign workers with seasonal work visas). Also the population is closer to 5,000 and the median home value is probably more like $400k.

Sounds like you have enough votes to ban ships.

So +30% of the entire population works in research? Including people who don't even work? That seems a lot riding on one place to me.

But forgive us tourists who want to see what makes Bar Harbor so special to live in..... It's a pretty nice place to visit.

Not all of the people working in research live in town, many commute from surrounding communities. Maybe 1/3 live on MDI?

Shot #2 in the books. Was supposed to get it last Friday but, ended up having some health issues resulting in major surgery 3 weeks ago, so changed it to today to avoid riding in a car almost 3 hours. Though probably should have just kept the original given how long I had to wait in line.

Extra bar of 5G already!!

He's already been identified as being from MN. The cops will find him and he's going to spend a lot of time in jail

the article did a horrible job explaining why he was arrested. He was arrested on an unrelated charge - he threw his license plate away and uses some sort of sovereign citizen garbage. That's why he was arrested. The cops didn't know about this at the time.

Given the news from the last few days, the odds of it happening is getting better and better. I'm betting that cruising will start back up in July, and slowly phase in. The question is how they do it- either with test cruises (with lots of testing) or vaccine targets.
My folks are careful to the point of extreme paranoia. They were looking at a small cruise (180 passengers) to Iceland. It had tons of checks, clearances etc. But... when they called the ship was actually being used by 2 diff entities. One was (booking 80 passengers) requiring all the safety and the other (booking 100 passengers) did not require checks, etc. So, if you are booking make sure to look into it thoroughly.

HIPPA is meant to prevnt medical entities from releasing health information regarding a patient without express consent. It does not forbid other entities from requiring that information in order for someone to be cleared to do something- ex- attend school. Medical entities can communicate with others they are referring the patient to but only give information that is necessary to provide care. In many states the patient must give express consent to release HIV results and some other things.

You are required to report communicable illnesses to Public Health including but not limited to- HIV, TB, STIs, Hepatitis, anything you immunize for- Measles, Mumps, German Measles, Chickenpox, Pertussis and others. You have to report the person's name and contact info. You can't release it to the general public.

Really no side effects from the second dose at all. My arm hurts a bit, but only at the injection site, and only when I move it. In fact, the first shot hurt more, and was my whole upper arm.

Obvious.

In early April, dozens of maskless churchgoers in northwest Oregon stood onstage singing and clapping inside a packed indoor venue for Easter Sunday service. The Peoples Church, which previously sued the state over coronavirus restrictions, hosted three similar indoor services that day, each lasting a little over an hour.

Days later, the state’s health authority began investigating a potential outbreak at the Salem church.

Now, the Oregon Health Authority says that at least 74 people associated with the church have tested positive for the coronavirus — one of the state’s largest workplace outbreaks.

I’m listening on a meeting right now where a discussion is underway, lamenting that a developer based in our India campus is sick with COVID, as is his entire family. The woman speaking (a tech manager) was upset that people wouldn’t reach out to him for status updates because we have deadlines to meet.

At least she didn’t have any cheerleaders on her side.

Virat Kohli is such a hero for getting vaccinated and posting it on social media. Shikhar, Ishant, Pujara, and Rahane have done the same thing. It would be nice to see more American athletes following their lead.
