So the news from India is bad, right? And the news channels are having a field day.

But at the same time, the reported deaths/day are just about half as bad as they were here in the US when it was bad. So even if the actual numerical rate is double what it is- matching the US on the darkest days, the population corrected rate is still ~ 1/3 of what it was here.

Lest we forget during those dark days, the deniers were trying to tell us that all is well. Murdering Americans. Thanks jeb, for putting your part in to killing so many Americans. Must help you sleep at night knowing that your efforts of murdering your fellow citizens has been so effective.

And I'm STILL confused how this is such a political issue. Like that dumb punk on faux, or the lawmakers who want to ban the requirement of vaccines to go to public events, or the school that will fire anyone getting the vaccine. How is this still a thing???? How many more people have to die before that stops?

The ban on vaccine requirements is pretty short sighted, too- we do require vaccines of many other things to go to school, and if the University of Michigan can't require vaccines to go to Michigan Stadium, the natural different response would be to NOT have any fans. Which is the exact opposite response I expect dumb Racist leaders want to see. I doubt I would go if there was not a requirement- even if we got free tickets to one of to box seats.

The fact that stadiums are NOT filling up in states where things are 100% open should yell loud that people will be careful if the leaders are not. The longer this goes on, the longer we won't engage in the greater economy. Duh. Said this before, and will keep saying it. Rushing back into the system has not made things better what so ever- I wonder how may open restaurants there are who are in a worse place trying to pretend that all is well with fewer people than just being open for take out or delivery? And my favorite band is going on tour this summer- I'll pass.

Deniers forget that we have all learned how to live in this state for over a year now. And we are capable of continuing, finding alternatives.

What else does the right have other than opposition? That is their platform right now.

Why should there be opposition of fighting the virus?!??!!?!? Why does there need to be a platform other than eradicate the virus? I don't get that at all.

Opposition to that is "just let people die when they don't need to" as in killing consumers if it has to be in Racist party terms they can understand.

I couldn’t agree with you more.

It's bad in India because only about 1/3-1/5 of deaths and cases are being reported.

But even with that correction, it's lower than the US when corrected for population. India is 3.8x larger than the US, and during the recent peak deaths- the 7 day rolling death average was 3500 people per day. Corrected for India, that would be over 13,000 deaths per day.

So the actual deaths would have to be 6.5x worse than reported to just equal the US on the darkest days. That's how bad it was in the US. Where the Racist party seems to think we have the best healthcare in the world. I'm sure those same Racists look down on India in a very bad way- but the situation they put us in was worse than it is right now in India.

Again, people like to look at headlines, and ignore the data- the idea that "all was well" in the US was a total lie.

The Racist Party are murders. Thanks, jeb- you did a great job murdering your fellow Americans.

In that case the underreporting is just larger. Look at a map of India.

It's not just 4x the US pop in 1/4 the area. It's that 70% of those people are squeezed into an area the size of California. Those people are cheek by jowl, half of them are completely indigent, and they sh-t in the street.

I am amazed there isn't a constant state of bubonic plague in India, let alone what a SARS epidemic would do. I'll bet their death toll is underreported by millions. It's a rightwing government so perhaps tens of millions.

When you pander to foolish and/or stupid people, you have to take foolish and stupid stands on issues affecting the country. It’s pretty easy to understand when you consider their voting bloc isn’t filled with the innovators of tomorrow.

The Right has always been dumber but at least there used to be overlap. Ever since the Right bifurcated completely and became the faction of the stupidest people we have seen something that I do not think has ever happened in a democracy before: instead of political differences the electorate is split between good/smart people and bad/stupid people. If that continues I can't see it resolving without either:

(1) mass murder by the bad/stupid people, or
(2) subjugation of the bad/stupid people into a permanent drone class

The problem is the division is self-feeding. Good/smart people gathered together become better and smarter. Bad/stupid people gathered together become worse and stupider. Obama followed by Dump could not have personified the difference more dramatically.

Give it a couple weeks...

I absolutely believe their undercount is substantially more than ours ever was. The rural areas don't test - people get sick and recover or die and there's no real accounting. Then in the urban areas... same?

The PRC undercount, tho.

Unimaginable.

I honestly don't think it was as bad as India.

PRC had three things going for it:
1. Absolute authoritarian control, infrastructure, and no hesitation to use it
2. Experience with SARS
3. A significant portion of their population had no issue with wearing masks because many already did.

India has none of those. Their leaders are less like Putin and more like Dump. Leadership is more distributed whereas it's extremely too heavy in China.

I think you're right. I can imagine the CPC blockading an entire city and plowing it under to stop an epidemic in its tracks. Murder a million to save ten million.

Hivemind. Those guys hear the Trolley Problem and think, "well, duh."

This is going to get me into trouble. But it's hard to disagree sometimes with their machine-like calculation. It's perfectly suited for a pandemic. I don't think throwing bags over peoples heads and dragging them from their homes is a good idea, but it's effective.

Stupidity isn't tolerated. It's kind of... intoxicating (in a very dangerous way).

I understand. But... guh.
