Covfefe-19 The 12th Part: The Only Thing Worse Than This New Board Is TrumpVirus2020

But didn't Trump say that NOBODY would be talking about Covid after the election? Maybe he meant we'd all be dead.

Election aint over...just ask the Moron Brigade aka The GOP. Since he hasnt conceded and since they are still challenging the results (because math is hard) COVID still exists.

Setting a new precedent? Are you serious? As opposed to putting this country into a conflict, where the President has absolute powers to do that?

Given that there have been numerous legal challenges to the emergency power rules, these rules are following the laws as they were intended. If the governors had no power, and this pandemic was left to its own demise, the odds of ADDING these emergency powers in most states would be pretty darned high. Just like they are to declare a disaster area. All of these emergency powers are temporary, and to keep them going requires some action by the legislature. Sadly, because this has turned into a political argument vs. science, it's easy for the Racist party to do nothing, and then just get upset when they are called out on it, and the governors are forced to extend the emergency actions.

The system is supposed to be a multi-stream system- where the governors powers are limited, and the legislature is supposed to follow up on their actions. But that actually requires the legislature to actually do *something*. When dumpy gets out of power, and people actually realize how dangerous this is, *maybe* they will start acting, and passing temporary laws that back up governor's actions. I doubt that, though. The Racist party has played this down so much that they can certainly be called murders. Especially when you see other countries around the world who has dealt with this MUCH better than we have with MUCH less resources.

As I see this current situation, Biden does not have the same power as he does with the military, to make an absolute mandate. That's up to the governors. What Biden CAN do is change the tone, and make sure that the government is set up to support people, in general, as opposed to just the rich- repeal the dump tax cuts, and use that money to support real people out of work. Working with congress, of course, since he also does not have the absolute ability to do that.

All of this. This is exactly why when you have a leadership vacuum at the top (and with a specific party across the board) things cant work. If the MNGOP spent half as much time helping to fix the problem instead of whining about how Tim Walz is a tyrant!!1!!1 (which anyone who has ever actually listened to Walz knows is so far from the truth it is laughable) Minnesota wouldnt be on its way to triple digit deaths daily. But no, they just fight him on his rules, fight him on his powers and tell all their voters that this is no big deal and we should be open since there is little risk. Even now their airhead mouthpiece says crap like that. It is irresponsible and it honestly is darn right criminal in my mind.

From now until the end of time, any time any clown from the GOP starts talking about "Sanctity of Life" they should be shown their comments on the virus and then the death total. Screw them and screw their voters.

Biden will try but he won't fix this because 72 million people believe Trump when he says this is all going way, it isnt a big deal, herd immunity is good and Biden wants to destroy the economy. That is also why the vaccine won't be enough. too many people wont get it out of spite and screw the whole thing up. All because one political party doesnt have brains or the balls to govern.

Oh nonsense. Just because you hear this blather rattling around inside your head doesn't mean that it'll be true when you reduce it to writing.

Whatever Walz has wanted to do in this state, he has done. The Senate GOP has biatched about it, but they are powerless to thwart him in any way, and you know it. Give me one example where Walz has wanted to do something to fight Covid spread but his proposed actions have been barred by the MNGOP.

The plain and simple fact of the matter is that despite the steps taken by Walz, despite his good intentions, despite his "following the science," the disease has spread here, just like it was always going to do. Maybe it hasn't spread as fast. Maybe he has bought some time for the hospitals. But it was going to spread despite his efforts.

No one is saying it wasnt going to spread...I am saying we would be in a better position to deal with it if 35% of this state didn't believe it was a hoax. And you can deny it all you want to they friggin do. Mask protocols are followed well in the Cities...but the farther you get away from the 494/694 loop (outside of say Duluth or Rochester) the less compliant people are. It isnt just about the MNGOP fighting Tim Walz's powers, that was just stupid. It was them telling their constituents that they didn't need to follow the rules (they still do that) along with them not following the rules (which they didnt which is why they all got sick...and not telling the Dems when they were in session putting more people at risk) and applauding those that agreed with them that Walz is a tyrant out to destroy the state. (which they still do) That you can't see that means you either arent looking, or are just oblivious. There is examples from just last week of this that were in the news. They took the same stance their God-King did...make sure their people flout the guidelines and stay open.

He never said we would stop the spread it was about mitigating the damage. (flattening the curve) Plus he assumed his neighbors would do the same thing. They didn't. Sturgis alone was enough to offset his efforts...must be a coincidence though.

Just keep pretending this was all inevitable. If that helps you sleep at night cool. The rest of the world knows the truth...and we won't soon forget it.

The only good thing when the vaccine becomes available, and certain people won't take it( you know who they are) is that the virus will then only be killing the right people.

Right now, too many otherwise innocent people have lost their lives because of the stupidity and selfishness of other people.

Well, and people who legitimately can't take it. There are those folks too that rely on the rest of us to do the right thing.

As he has stated since Day 1, that's the been the sole goal of his administration. A large (the majority?) of the population contracting this virus is nigh on inevitable, but we need to slow its progress so those ICU beds are available.

I don't know that completely socialized healthcare is the only route

Even with Single Payer, American health care will never be "completely socialized." Even if the government is the sole insurer or, better still, if we end health insurance completely and the health care providers simply submit invoices to the USG the way military contractors do now, those health care providers, like those military contractors, will be private and market-driven.

The idea that this is TEH SOCIALISM!!!11! has been a Right boogeyman all along. We have a parasitical middle man industry (insurance) that has been eating both consumers and the public treasury alive, despite it being as obsolete as buggy whips. It and all the other support services that live off of it are desperately thrashing about trying to save their rice bowl at everybody else's cost.

Kill them with fire.

What part about bending the curve did Hovey miss? That's been the number one goal since day one. And right now America is failing that goal in epic fashion. Just wait until all the beds are full and there's nowhere for the really sick to go. Have fun.

I genuinely don't know whether Hovey is being disingenuous. To me it's so obvious and as I have maintained throughout I don't believe Hovey is stupid, so there are two possibilities: (1) he's blinded by his ideology (something that can happen even to smart people) or (2) he's witting but he's cynically carrying water for the laundry, and f-ck the consequences.

I prefer to think he has been duped than that he's a monster.

Look out for other people? Do what's best for society?

Not my responsibility. I wanna go to the bar.

The curve is more of a near vertical line at this point.

IT DID NOT HAVE TO SPREAD.

Taiwan has not had a case in months. Vietnam, one. New Zealand, a couple dozen? Japan has lost fewer people than North Dakota.

You have water carriers like Hovey keep repeating that nonsense like a mantra. It’s hogwash. The right has decided to make this political and fuck us all.

I certainly don't intend to be disingenuous. I don't think I'm a dupe or a political stooge. I think if you had to boil down my opinion regarding Covid to a single statement, which I have essentially argued throughout, it would be this: Short of a vaccine, I don't think we have nearly as much ability to control this disease as a lot of people here (and elsewhere) think we do.

That's all. It's just an opinion, but it's my opinion.
