When I lived in OR I was convinced this was how I was gonna die.

There will be a Million Moron March this Saturday in my city.

On the one hand I appreciate the opportunity for them to cross-infect in as high a concentration as possible. On the other, it's going to be expensive to sanitize the entire city after they leave.

Thousands of nurses in philly say they’re gonna strike over unsafe working conditions during covid.

but by all means let’s not do a thing about this until Jan 20

Sobering article.

Both the political response and and too many citizens responses to everything about coronavirus has been morally indefensible. Frankly these people need to be reminded the blood is on their hands.

Half of this country tried to do something. We've worn masks, stayed away from crowds, quarantined when prudent and tried to absorb the real news about COVID-19. Dedicated and highly trained frontline healthcare workers have pleaded with us. Half the politicians warned us to be vigilant and tried to put measures into place that would control the spread of the virus and allow our 5h!tty health care system to at least continue to function. But since half of the country didn't our efforts have been wasted, in large part.

Count on crossing the 250,000 threshold dead by December 31. More than likely we will see days in November and December with more than 2500 dying in a single 24 hour period. Maybe even 3,000. We might have 400,000 dead by the time this lets up in the spring of 2021. Or maybe it lets up by summer of 2021 when we've lost 500,000.

Case spiked in many European countries as well, mostly because after taking monumental steps to stop the spread in spring and summer, they let up their guard a little too quickly. Most will take measures far beyond what we will do here though, and will likely get their numbers to a more responsible level. We will not.

The MAGAts here will only see this for as big a crisis and as big a failure as it has been if one of their loved ones gets incredibly sick or dies. And some will be too stupid or selfish to even see it then. And since I am an incredibly cruel and petty person when you cross me, I will delight in reminding them the blood of their loved one is on their hands.

Europe has already bent their curves down

Are you responding to one of the trolls? I thought maybe they left after their master got whooped

edit- nevermind. I saw ND mentioned Europe

So I had a weekly town hall call with my hospital (we're part of a large system in Boston). Currently, we are almost at full capacity, but we have not shut down anything or reduced anything related to elective procedures. We hope we do not need to, but we'll see how that goes. We are also much better at "sharing" patients throughout our system as well as the other big system in town, as well as systems in central and western MA and NH. Everyone is in horrible financial straights and a second cutting of those electives would be absolutely devastating financially (to say nothing of the cost of deferred treatment).

We are as ready as is possible, given the circumstance. It's just incredibly frustrating because it doesn't need to be this way.

I dont wish ill will on people often but sometimes I do wish Karma would take the wheel...

You're a better man than I am. I figure the only way this would have gone away was the right people to have gotten very sick. Had trump gotten it in April or May before we had a lot of ideas about what treatments were more effective, he might not have left the hospital in just 3 days. He might have had a tube shoved down his throat to breathe and THAT might have changed the approach.

Ok

My heart does not in any way bleed for them...

And just for SJHovey:

I wonder if some clown from Stanford will use this to prove COVID is nothing and will go away rather quickly. ;^)
OK, seriously here. Not trying to be political, or make this about this side or that side, but......

What special kind of stupid, mouth-breathing, ignorant, special-ed kinda person thinks its a good idea to go on a cruise at this point in time?

Really. How friggin' stupid do you have to be to think this is a good idea?
