Yale is 3-5 in the ECAC and 3-6 overall. They have lost their last four games in a row, to Clarkson, Princeton, Quinnipiac, and UNH. The fans on the Yale thread seemed to feel that their team took too many penalties against Princeton and Quinnipiac, nine in each game, and it really hurt them against Princeton, as the Tigers scored three power-play goals in what wound up as a 5-4 game. The Bulldogs cut back a little, but not much, on the penalties against UNH, being charged with seven minors. RPI and Union could be well advised to work on the power play in practice this week.
Brown is also 3-5 in the ECAC, but slightly better overall at 4-5. They have won three of their last four, beating St. Lawrence, Princeton, and Holy Cross, while losing to Quinnipiac. Freshman goalie Luke Kania played against St. Lawrence and Quinnipiac, but sophomore goalie Gavin Nieto has played in the two most recent wins against Princeton and Holy Cross. Nieto was as good as anyone could ask a goalie to be against Princeton, recording a 47-save shutout in a 3-0 victory. He wasn't quite as impressive against Holy Cross, but still won a 4-2 decision. He has probably established himself as Brown's # 1 goalie for the time being.

Yale won't have a problem with RPI's power play.
Seriously, our PP seems to be improving, but putting the puck in the net, which is of course the real objective, is sill a problem.

RPI's PP wasn't much of a problem last year. Presently, it's around 10%. That's a pathetic number.
Yale won't have a problem with RPI's power play.

Yales may be worse, the team was completely snake bitten against UNH last night. If you can get them in the box early, you have chance. Young and injured defense is also a factor. The way the season is going so far, Allain my throw a different goalie out there rather than Tucker.

This is a much different Brown team from last year's putrid edition. We're still a little inconsistent; we dominated St. Lawrence and Holy Cross on the shot clock, but were overrun by Princeton and Quinnipiac in that category. The loss to Clarkson was perhaps a bit unfair, as we generally played well and were more often than not the better team throughout, but on the flip side you could argue we most certainly deserved to lose to Princeton and to Yale in the first game of the season.
Regardless, Nieto gives Brown a chance to win games. I understand why Whittet has been using a rotational system, but I think Nieto needs to be the guy until proven otherwise.
Union is always a tough road game for us. I think we can play them close, but I'm unconvinced we'll get a point out of that one. Looking forward to seeing how young and improving Brown and RPI squads match up on Saturday.
