Though I tend to tap the heel a little more, despite years of instruction which dictated I tap the toe and ONLY the toe, to look as professional as possible.

In addition, we were only supposed to use the big toe to avoid adding extraneous noise to the quieter parts of a composition. I'm fine with doing that in a symphonic band setting, but anywhere else I'm gonna stomp.

When I am listening to music I tap the heel. I often alternate between the two as well. Five years of marching.
When I am actually playing music, not in a marching setting, I don't tap my foot at all.
