WordPress Theme question

I found a theme for my blog - http://hockeyphotography.com/blog - named Journalist by Lucien E. Marin that is almost what I want. Almost!

Right now the right hand side has:

Blogroll - not using now, don't even know how to add anything and don't see myself using, but don't really care if it stays

Archives - good

Categories - good, I just have to figure out what I want to do there

Meta - don't see the point in any of this. I don't think my galleries would feed properly for RSS (I don't use so I'm not 100% that they won't or the appropriate terminology) and if they don't, having that available would be a negative.

It is missing a Tag list which I would like to have and I would like to have a long, alphabetical list, not a freaking cloud. I hate clouds. I don't care if there is a little number after the tag indicating how many entries or not.

Is this something I can add to the Theme? If so, how? My first theme had a options page where you could change certain aspects, but this one does not, just the CSS code page to change it that way.

Help!

thanks,
-Melissa

Just wanted to add - I'm looking for a free solution right now. Want to pay to have full site re-designed in future which would include the blog. Don't want to spend money on a stopgap solution.

Melissa:

I've just started a blog as well, and I also chose WordPress.com. It seems to get a lot of positive feedback from people.

First off, I like that theme you chose a lot. I ended up going with DePo Masthead, just for personal preference, but it also has that cleaner look, which I think is the best way to go.

I'm new enough that I'm interested in many of the same things you're wondering about. I do know that their Support has been really helpful so far, so if you haven't used it, go there. I just went there and searched "Meta," because like you I have no idea what that could mean. That had a short video explaining it, and, I have to say, I still don't have a clue what it's advantages are. Maybe in time in becomes clearer.

This is about the least helpful response you could hope for. :o Still, I think you're on the right track. Good luck.

Re: WordPress Theme question

I found this, but couldn't figure out where to put the code (tried a couple things - nothing worked). When you go to widgets you see all the stuff that is currently on the sidebar and some more stuff, but dragging stuff to inactivate doesn't change anything and if you actually drag anything over into the sidebar box (only allows one item), then it replaces everything else. I tried moving the tag cloud over, but couldn't get it to switch to a list, plus I do want the search, archives, category stuff to stay.

Edited because I'm not smart enough to add the link the first time - http://www.themelab.com/2008/04/24/how-to-add-wordpress-tag-support-to-your-theme/

Re: WordPress Theme question

Okay - so I figured out how to add the themelab code and I now have a tag list appearing in the sidebar, BUT it doesn't list all the tags (and there doesn't seem to be a reason for why one is included and another is not).

help!

Re: WordPress Theme question

Just in case someone does a search here - I want to echo the recommendation of the http://wordpress.org forums. A wonderful person named Esmi gave me the info that I needed. Yay!
