WMU's Andy Murray Resigns

Odd time to resign although WMU is not requiring the vaccine. Maybe he's just doing his replacement a solid since they're not bringing in someone from outside the program at this point.

I don't think this has anything to do with vaccines. I take Murray at his word. He likely doesn't want to call it retirement, but he deserves a nice vacation from daily duties the HC position requires.

Ferschweiler fits the WMU coaching profile. Former alum, solid recruiting record, and NHL experience. Should be a great continuation for WMU hockey.

when andy m. got hired the WMU admin said "a natty in 10 years" - i guess that did not happen.

if PF is the new head coach, who will be the new assistant?

chris brooks at MTU played at WMU, was an assitant there for nine seasons, and played for the k'wings as well. and i guess his kid will be a [hockey] freshman at WMU. hmm...

are we going to lose our second coach this off-season?

GO TECH GOLD!

I tend to think that the hiring of Fersch closes the door on a return to WMU for Chris. He's already been the associate head coach at WMU once, why come back for anything other than the top job? He and Fersch are fairly close in age, so it's not like Chris would take over when Pat retires. Not sure if Barrett is coming in as a freshman this year or next - the full roster hasn't been released yet.

i dunno...

while chris did extremely well at stevens point (D3) he seems comfortable playing second-fiddle at tech... and i personally don't see him having the spunk needed for being a D1 head coach.

jj crew is young and new as an assistant - they need someone at a higher level to replace PF... someone that has some skin in the game; alum, son-on-roster, been there before, etc, etc...

sounds like i am trying to get rid of chris brooks... hahahah...

well, i want what is best for michigan tech. so if it means him departing mtu to land a job at his alma mater, let's find a better assistant coach to come to hoton...

any word on who will be the next assistant coach? list of probable names at least?

"“The search started immediately last Thursday [5th?] when they told me, and I’ve reached out to people that I trust and that I’m very confident in in the hockey world and that are my friends,” Ferschweiler said. “That’s where I’m going to start, with those guys. Several very qualified people have already reached out to me showing interest in the job. Obviously with the season being literally just weeks away, we’ll try to expedite the process and make it as quick as possible, but we also want to get the right guy. I’m very confident we’re going to get a very good, qualified assistant coach in here to help.”"

again, while this affects MTU in probably a bad way since it's way late in the off season, -BUT- if i were chris brooks, i would leave hoton for k'zoo in a second; coaching your son, back at your alma mater, and competing in the NACHO. and oh yeah, most likely more money... pretty simple math to me.

It’s been a minute since I’ve visited here, let alone posted.

I am curious if anyone has heard anything concrete on the assistant coach search. I find the Brookes theory interesting, but I agree with Taz that it’s highly unlikely, for multiple reasons.
