Why is the start time of the championship game at 6 pm et?

At least that afternoon game is on the weekend, unlike the Thursday early game in early afternoon and the mad rush home from work to catch the late game.

I know that in 1991, NMU vs Boston University, it was a night game. 3 overtimes and it was late in the night.

The 1995 Championship Game in Providence was at 1pm. So times varied in the 90's.

Remember when the semi's were two admissions? 2pm and 7pm? That kind of sucked.

When those two get together throw out the won-loss records.

I realize the Cornhole thing was meant as a joke, but do people realize that the American Cornhole League (yes, it's a thing https://www.iplaycornhole.com/) gets better ratings than college hockey?

Just to follow up...Cornhole drew 474,000 viewers on Saturday.

That's about the same viewership of Michigan vs Michigan State. Boston College vs Quinnipiac was 238,000, Denver vs Cornell was 115,000 and Boston University vs Minnesota was not high enough to make the list (<100,000).

The college wrestling championships got higher ratings. Hell, regular season college softball gets higher ratings. Iowa and South Carolina women's basketball practice (cue Allen Iverson) drew 211,000.

In case people are still wondering why ESPN doesn't care about college hockey.

I recall lots of Regionals games being joined partway through after conclusion of women’s lacrosse games that commonly extended through several OT’s.

I was at Lake Placid in 1988. Lake Superior vs Maine was Thursday night and St. Lawrence vs Minnesota was Friday night. Championship game was 7 or 7:30 Saturday.

The semifinals featured the Maine - Michigan 3OT thriller. Too bad ESPN didn't care. The first hour+ was preempted by a tennis match while the end was treated like garbage. While I listened to Dan Shermerhorn win the game on my radio, I watched Lee Trevino sink a meaningless 10' putt. The Frozen Four wasn't even head-to-head with the Masters yet, it was just another nondescript golf tournament. ESPN eventually came back to hockey long enough to show the icing that set up the faceoff and Shermerhorn scoring and then immediately went back to golf. No celebration, no recap, not even a replay of the goal.

Thursday ratings
Boston College vs Michigan - 373,000
Studio show between games - 248,000
Boston University vs Denver - 232,000

The 8AM broadcast of Live from the Masters on the Golf Channel drew 447,000
