It it took me a while to figure this out because I did not see a gear icon. That is because I have the half light, half dark icon there which means I get the default. Clicking on it, one sees the choices. What you called a gear is probably the sun meaning light. It does look like a gear.

I have the same half and half. It says style variation, click it and you get a choice between dark or light. Not sure which one I like better though.Ed,

You're right! I was on light mode and thought it was a gear icon that is often used for settings. (I just noticed I'm logged in as board!)
