What's up with all these Thur/Fri series?

There's always been a few rare Thursday/Friday series in past seasons, but this year -- and this weekend in particular-- there just seems to be an abundance of them. Anybody have any details as to why this trend might be booming?
 
As others have mentioned, football is driving the bus here.

Football takes 100% of the resources available at a school (facilities, staff, etc.) and there simply isn't enough to be able to accommodate hockey on the same day.

If you wanted to compare things year over year, look and see how many "odd" series there are between Dec 1 and March 1.

Also a big help to the visiting teams. Watched the Nanooks play Penn State a few years ago on a Thursday/Friday series and the hotel costs tripled for Friday night. Closest room we could find was 25 miles away.
