Vermont at Minnesota - Oct 21,23 (East Meets West)

I thought I would get a thread started early for this matchup as this will be the first time these two teams have met. Anyone from Vermont planning to make the trip to Mariucci this weekend? The Gophers are making the trip to Vermont next year and I am looking forward to possibly making that trip :)

Here's some background on each team:

Minnesota is 4-0-0 and 2-0-0 in conference play so far this season. They are coming off a thrilling road sweep of the defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.

Vermont has yet to play a regular season tilt, but lost this past weekend 2-1 to the US Under 18 Team.

Vermont was picked to finish <A HREF="http://www.hockeyeastonline.com/men/pres1112/201109/sep27poll.php">SIXTH</A> in the Hockey East Coaches Poll, while Minnesota was picked by WCHA coaches to finish <A HREF="http://www.wcha.com/men/presarch/201009/sep29gfp.php">FIFTH</A>.

Should be a fun weekend of hockey!

I'm still waiting for Senator Finistirre to apologize for their cheese.

Important two games. Don't blow it.

After a very emotional conference sweep against the defending national champs and our in-state rivals, Gopher coaches and fans have good reason to be worried about a letdown. Winning the first and then the second against a Hockey East team could very well turn out to be hugely important in determining where - and maybe even IF - they get seeded come NCAA tournament time. And they also need to prove to themselves that their sweep of a very good Bulldog team was not a fluke.

Couldn't agree more! I am worried about a letdown, but not as much as I would have been the last few years. Just another test for this young, promising team.

So what can Vermont fans tell us about their team? Do they play a high tempo up and down the rink game? Or will they try to slow it down and clog the neutral zone?

Interesting that the Gophers have never played them before, sounds like we will be heading to Vermont next year to return the favor.

Sandbagging already.

Sandbagging already.
That wasn't sandbagging. Saying Vermont will kill us would be sandbagging.

Mental focus has long been an issue for this program, so it's fair to be concerned after this past weekend's emotional games.

And if past experience is any guide, never underestimate a Hockey East team, no matter who you last played and how you did.

Please excuse him, rinkpig got him all fired up about 5 minutes ago and he is looking for some revenge as opposed to ignoring pig.

You're talking about Vermont... Do you actually think they are going to come into your house and sneak past you? Hence, the "sandbagging" Wasn't trying to pick a fight just saying, they're not very good.

Haha, what do you call the opposite of sandbagging?

Maybe they can give out Ben & Jerry's at Mariucci instead of Culver's this weekend.
