Vermont 2022-23: New Jerseys, New Attitude

Quick depth chart analysis (not going in any order, positions via EP and some line chart digging in the case of the forwards)

G: Carriere / Autio / Hudson
LHD: Leahy / Luca / Henry / Tornqvist / Bergmanis
RHD: Long / Gotz / Stucker / Jones
LW: Bouquot / Lemay / Schachle
C: Buyalsky / Jellus / Maatta / Mountain / Sinclair
RW: Evans / Spitserov / Tarkiainen / Zapernick / Good / Walther
Dunno what forward position: Richards

Obviously forward positions are fluid, so it's imperfect. Like the blueline enough, and if Buyalsky can stay healthy and live up to the hype I think the center group looks a lot better with him there and everyone else bumped down a slot.

Can't believe the season is finally here! Looking forward to getting to men's and women's game this weekend. Strange with the men not having a exhibition game. I suspect there will be some rust on Saturday. UCONN is a tough test to start the season, if they can get a win that'd be huge.

Hope to see close to sellout. I know the attendance numbers weren't great last year. People had good reason to avoid games with Covid/the team being bad, but hopefully this year will be different.

UCONN also didn't have a preseason game so at least we're in the same boat (they talked about it at media this week).

Also Maxim Strbak is having a great start to the season in the USHL. Got a real shot at going 1st round in June.

Piggybacking off this, for those who care about recruiting, here's where everyone is playing this year:

BCHL - Jack Kurrle (Trail Smoke Eaters), Eli Barnett (Victoria Grizzlies), Mario Gasparini (Wenatchee Wild), Karter McNarland (Powell River Kings), Duncan Ramsay (Chilliwack Chiefs)
USHL - Max Strand, Colin Kessler, Axel Mangbo (all Sioux City Musketeers), Maxim Strbak (Sioux Falls Stampede), Alex Bump (Omaha Lancers), Charlie Kinsman (Tri-City Storm)
NAHL - Ronan Walsh (Aberdeen Wings), Ethan Begg (Janesville Jets)
HS/Prep - Kris Krumins (Don Bosco Prep, NJ), Daniel Heroux (Kimball Union, NH), Sam Scheetz (Chaska, MN - he just committed the other day, led the team in scoring last year as a sophomore)

Do we know what the line up is going to look like tonight? Do we know if Buyalsky is good to go?
Missed this earlier but tonight's lines (obviously late bc the first just ended)

Bouquot/Buyalsky/Zapernick
Schachle/Maatta/Walther
Richards/Jellus/Evans
Lemay/Spitserov/Mountain
Good

Bergmanis/Gotz
Leahy/Stucker
Tornqvist/Long

5 hooking calls against UVM. Is this a new officiating emphasis or was UVM chasing all night? 0 hooking calls on UConn.

Thought the Cats played well in the first period, tight checking, tight defense. Looked terrible on the powerplay.

Seemed like half the game yesterday the announcer was saying, Bergmanis passes to Buyalsky, back to Bergmanis, back to Buyalsky ...

Munzenberger back in the line up tonight with the top pairs:

Munzenberger - Gotz
Bergmanis - Stucker

UConn plays hard, saw both games online. They look like they reloaded with guys that fit their hard working, “tough to play against”, culture. UVM looked good, just not as deep.

Yeah - talking to a UConn fan elsewhere that saw in UVM some of their teams from a few years ago. Tough to play against but just missing that killer instinct.

6 league points on the road the first weekend of the season? I guess they had enough. We’ll see about the rest of the season.
