USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

In an interesting twist of fate, it turns out that early April is the cool, rainy season in northern California.

So it looks like I might end up being good to go for the Ford Field Frozen Four, and, more importantly, the Posters Game, 2010.

Ok, this is the important question- time.

Me, being the base organizer, have already decided that you don't get to choose the date- it WILL be Saturday, April 10. The question is the time.

Right now, time at Yost is open city- and as long as we book a time, they will not remove the ice before out event. A drop in hockey game is ok, but I'll have to check on the scoreboard as we get closer to the time.

I'm planning on a 2 hour block- is that good or not quite enough? Ice time seems to be pretty reasonable to me- $235/hr- so $470 for two hours. Break that among 30 or so skaters, and it's just over $15/person, not including T's. Find a couple of sponsors, and who knows? Any benefactors like the great Swami in our area?

So, please vote:
a) 11am-1pm
b) Noon-2pm
c) 11am-2pm.

Or suggest an alternate time. I really want to keep this early on Saturday, and not Friday.

The one "issue" that is with Yost is distance- Ann Arbor is 40 miles from Detroit- give it an hour drive. What I was going to suggest is that we make a car pool "club"- Mrs Alfa and I will be staying downtown, with my stuff staying home in AA, so I can take 2 more+gear. As we get closer, I hope that people will find the kindness in their hearts to bring others who choose to not get a car. Even going so far to carry your rival. pgb- I'll even volunteer to bring you, a buckeye (although, anyone who is smart will see through that, since you'll probably drive up from klumbus).

Once we get going, I'll start asking for registration info. Even IF I go to this other event, I'll do registration and organize- and hope that pgb or ewe can take the last bits over.

So you NOW have something to look forward to at a FFFF!!!!

Haven't you recieved the memo? Even the NCAA now realizes that no person outside of Michigan is going to Detroit for this championship, why not you? I'll be there, but then again, I'm from here. Really, we'll be lucky to get folks from East Lansing or GR to come to Detroit.

I was supposed to be going to one of our best friend's weddings- some things are more important than mere entertainment.

So.

Less seriously, I'm at least hoping for some fans from Big Rapids to grace our presense, and, if we are lucky, that odd strip of land that the Mackinaw Bridge attaches to. Some other state called YooP, or something like that.

I would vote A or C.
I would be open to either a 2hr or 3hr time slot, whichever everyone else wanted to do.

If I end up going to the F4, I would be driving, so might have room for one other, as I believe we will have the little one with us.

You don't want to see me on skates :p

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

Seeing this thread is going to make me want to find a way to get there for the F4 this year.

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

I'll be in Detroit, but I haven't decided if I want to grant you all the honor of meeting me. When do you need to know?

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

I'm sure someone has skated who isn't as talented as you. :D

We need some representation from the YooP. Wouldn't it be fun to have a YooP vs. the USA game? But then cats and dogs would be forced to mate on ships.

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

I might be there, but you don't want me on the ice. Ask NMU8685309 and anyone who was at our exhibition game about my shooting. :o

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

I am planning on being there; however, I think my hockey skills speak for themselves and can wait until 2011 in St. Paul. Therefore, I will be helping GLM call the posters game. :)

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

Meh. I'll show up. I vote B, the extra hour to chase the hangover will be way clutch. Thanks to my year in Iraq I haven't actually played hockey in over two years, but I'll give it a shot.

Sorry, but based on your "new favorite picture" of yourself, you can play.

The YooP needs you to play.

Red- so you know, the St. Louis game was the first game I played for 6 or so years. First time I even got on skates... well, that's not really true- if you count the times I skated on a cruise ship. Still- it was both fun and painful.

Looks like we have one line's worth of players.

Sloe- can you talk Quiz into playing? At least she has some skill.

Great news!

Based on past experience, two hours is good enough. I would strongly defend the two hour time block against suggestions that it be shorter. But quite honestly we'll have had plenty of ice time after two hours. In DC, we actually left the ice a couple of minutes short of the two hours we paid for.

Ice time seems to be pretty reasonable to me- $235/hr- so $470 for two hours. Break that among 30 or so skaters, and it's just over $15/person, not including T's. Find a couple of sponsors, and who knows? Any benefactors like the great Swami in our area?
The hourly rate is good. If any sponsors step forward, so much the better.

So, please vote:
a) 11am-1pm
b) Noon-2pm
c) 11am-2pm.

Choice B. Noon - 2 PM strikes me as perfect.

Choice A? I'd be fine with that as a second choice. Given the commute to AA, and the need for rest after Friday's festivities, I think waiting until noon would be better. But if the majority wants 11 AM, I'd certainly be good with that.

Choice C? My feeling is that the larger group should not be asked to pay for a third hour. Most won't use it. If there's a sponsor that wants to pay for a third hour, that's great. Or, if there's a desire to have an open skate or broomball game during a third hour, funded by those participants, that could be cool. But for the traditional posters' game, two hours is enough.

Yup, I'm definitely driving. So the in-vehicle fraternization won't be occuring.;)

One plus: My vehicle will be available to assist with the carpooling effort.

Once we get going, I'll start asking for registration info. Even IF I go to this other event, I'll do registration and organize- and hope that pgb or ewe can take the last bits over.
We've got your back. Sounds like Boston Ewe needs to transmit the spread sheets from past years to you. We'll communicate further on this off-thread.

So you NOW have something to look forward to at a FFFF!!!!
Absolutely!

I'd also add that I'm heartened by the NCAA's decision to move to an End Zone configuration for Ford Field seating. That should meaningfully reduce the problem with sightlines. I'd strongly urge everyone -- especially those from CCHA schools -- to give the FFFF a chance. Attend the Ford Field games on Thursday. If the stadium arrangements on Thursday just don't work, you can always watch the final on television. But regardles of what happens downtown, the Posters' Game at Yost will be great.:)

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

I hate to bump this too many times this far ahead of the even, but I really want to nail down the time so that we get exactly what we want.

Especially since the ice has been taken out the day before the FF for the last few years. They WILL stay open if we rent the ice, but they would like us to schedule it fairly early.

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

Given the exact circumstances of the FFFF, we may be looking at a higher-than-usual percentage of late registrants. Getting the full group to vote right now -- or even a representative sample -- probably isn't doable. And yet, it's obviously essential to get a reservation on the books ASAP. The possibility of having the game at Yost dwarfs the other options. Two thoughts:

1. Could we split the difference and book the ice for 11:30 - 1:30 P.M.?

2. Could you reserve the full three hours, along with an informal understanding that the timeslot will likely be streamlined later?

Also, let the rest of us know if you need help with any deposit that might be required.

Re: USCHO Poster's Game, 2010- in the house that Yost Built.

I am definitly in. Any of the time slots listed would be fine with me.

Duh, you and tD are in 100%.

Well, if you ask me, closer to 200%. IE- I may need some help, especially moving people. You, tD, KC, Hammer, and a few others may be called to action. But we will worry about that closer to the game.
