USB Port problem

My laptop has 3 USB ports - 2 are 2.0 and 1 is not (or so I assume though *** they wouldn't just all be 2.0 is beyond me). At times, the @#$%& computer claims that I have plugged something into a slow port and then behaves like that (was having to delete as I shot tonight because at the end of the 2nd period of the men's game it was STILL moving a card from the women's game) . Sometimes plugging/unplugging works; sometimes it doesn't.

What is the real answer (and if you answer buy a different type of machine I will hurt you if I ever meet you irl)?
