USA Hockey writes Article Jr Hockey Prepares For Return

Say What? USA Hockey continues to remain mum, but by writing this article are they giving their permission to play without saying anything and relying on the commissioners? It sure looks that way to me.

Well Beantown managed to put something together, in some areas youth summer leagues are happening. I think it will be very hit-or-miss as to how much youth hockey there will be based on area. Unless things really are cleared-up by next March or so, I don't expect USA Hockey to sponsor a national tournament again. It seems things will go at a local level in some areas but not a whole lot of travelling or national events. Not expecting the IIHF tournaments to happen. Most of the 'smart money' on P5 college football is that the seasons will start but not finish so I can't see college hockey happening if the P5 schools can't finish a football season with all that money at stake.

I think (I'm not an expert by any means) that sanction play just means that the standard USA Hockey 'umbrella' insurance is still in place. I wonder if that covers "getting covid" - is USA hockey liable if someone can prove that they contracted covid at the rink in a USA Hockey sanctioned event? It would appear to be no if they are continuing to sanction events but given the crazy times and general litigious nature of some people, I wonder if this is not tested. I don't think college hockey is sanctioned by USA hockey (does someone know?)

It's not. No college sport is sanctioned by their respective national sports body. It's NCAA and school sanctioned as far as insurance is concerned. And none of the playing rules from USA Hockey apply to college.

Oh I Agree on not controlling for NCAA, but it certainly does not hurt on the uncertainty and the NCAA is looking for others to absorb some of the responsibility and this does exactly that.
