Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

TheValleyRaider

Let's Go 'Gate!
Guess since the other 2 ECAC games tonight have their own threads....

Colgate 0
Union 0
End 1st

Union's had the better of play, and maybe one or two quality chances. Colgate has had 2 PPs so far, but nothing interesting to speak of happened. Pretty much the story of tonight so far

But hey, we're not losing yet, so there's that....

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Union strikes first on the PP (2nd PP of the period so far). Wayne Simpson puts in his own rebound

1-0 Union
15:01 2nd

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Didn't even see this thread up, guess I'll move over here.

Simpson made a great play on the goal, had a strong rush to the net then scored on his own rebound.

Good play from him, though it looked like a 2x1 for Union that Simpson took himself. Only really bad defensive play I've seen from Colgate tonight

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Even period, Colgate definitely picking up the intensity, partially aided by Union taking penalties. Penalties cost us earlier, leading to a bad breakdown and the game's only goal. Mihalik's playing well, and though we have the puck in the Union end I'd love to see a few more shots. Not a fan of our pass-around-the-perimeter PP system, especially with the number of chances we've had. I hate being that guy yelling "Shoot!" every PP, but, well, it wouldn't hurt fellas

Third period's been the bane of our season, gotta come out strong here

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

I've been impressed by Colgate so far, they definitely don't look like a 3-16-1 team. Anything can happen in the third.

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Puck on the ice in Hamilton

Union 1
Colgate 0
Start 3rd

Whee! Audio from the radio broadcast has been synched up to the video feed. Some commentary at last! :)

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Union makes it 2-0 after Mihalik misplays the puck right onto a Union stick.

Jooris scored the goal for Union, unassisted at 4:27.

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Terrible play. Mihalik plays it off the boards behind the net, and it goes right to Jooris who doesn't miss from there

2-0 Union
15:33 3rd

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Colgate scores to make it 2-1, Jack McNamara got the goal.

Assists to Day and Brisebois, goal came at 8:26 of the third.

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

McNamara wrists it by Kinkaid after Colgate's started applying the pressure! Raiders back in this one, maybe

2-1 Union
11:34 3rd

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Colgate looking at a faceoff in the offensive zone, Mihalik on the bench, and Vaughan takes his TimeOut

2-1 Union
0:58 3rd

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

Colgate calls timeout with 58 seconds left. Faceoff will be to the right of Kinkaid, Colgate will have the 6 on 5 advantage with Mihalik on the bench.

Re: Union at Colgate, 1/14/11

If it's not 5-4, it's 2-1. One big mistake from Mihalik looks like the difference, though he made some key saves at other points to keep them in it. I might stick with him the rest of the way this year, but we'll probably see Bessette or Evin tomorrow. 0-5 on the PP hurts, though their complete inability to generate shots on goal, 5x5 or otherwise, is painful to watch. Not sure where else the season can go from here, and the team is competing, but right now I have little confidence they'll be doing much the rest of the way
