UMass- NewMass 2021-2022

The preseason polls are being kind to UMASS. Hope they live up to expectations. First up is a tough Minnesota State team on banner night. GO UMASS!

Looks like UMASS has righted the ship against a strong Providence team. Friar goalie really didn't have a chance on the only goal of the night. Morrow looks like the real deal. Will be interesting to see what happens at Schneider Arena tonight. Another victory or revenge by Providence? GO UMASS!

Solid win last night....especially since UMASS has not hadLopina in the lineup for the Providence series. Matt Murray has looked strong in goal. Six in a row!!! Seems that they are starting to gel as a group even though there are lots of new faces. Onto BU and maybe another sweep??

Looks like a tough weekend for UMASS. 4 of the top 6 forwards are out of the lineup due to injuries. Hope they heal fast. Will be a challenge against UNH with so many players out.

Define "challenge", kahunak. Competitive win vs. blowout win?

Good opportunity for Carvel to work in some of his depth players ...

BU had top players out against UMass as well, and stayed competitive, which I'll admit I didn't expect. It'll be on Carvel to get the most out of his depth players. He hasn't had to do that much (there was potential in 2020, but the postseason was cancelled) so we will see. I've seen a lot of emphasis placed on these injuries. Next man up, like Carvel said. Just have to execute. UMass is the better team currently, regardless of these injuries.

Nice win against UNH. Hope they can follow it up tonight. UMASS has been so fortunate to have strong goaltending over the years with Linberg and Murray. I wonder if Murray will play the whole year or if Carvell will start breaking in the new guys. Some UMASS highlights from the game last night.

Good win against UML last night but I still can't tell what kind of team UMASS has with all the injuries. They scratch and eke out wins and ties but do not look as organized and together as previous teams. I was just waiting for UML to tie it up in the 3rd as they dominated play. Perhaps UMASS just needs more time to play together to iron out the kinks.

If you haven't seen the Morrow goal, take a look. Pretty special. UMASS is fortunate to have him!

Neutral observer here. Attended and thoroughly enjoyed the game last night. Sat two rows behind the bench and was impressed how Carvel handled the team. He went nuts when the team wasn't shooting enough and the correction made a difference in the third. Nice comeback and beautiful setup by Morrow on the OT winner.

Made my first visit to Amherst and the Mullins Center on Saturday night. Very nice building and a surprisingly competitive game with LIU, the outcome in doubt until well into the third. UMASS seems to be getting better as the year progresses and Morrow continues to impress. Had a nice time and the wife and I enjoyed some of the local craft brews.

Thoughts on the game vs Minnesota tomorrow? I like the way we've been playing since the BC series, and this team is really starting to click. Feeling good about our top line, D-men, and Murrz, but depth is a huge concern, and I think our lack of scoring depth is the biggest barrier to making a deep run this year.

Making the 2.5 hour drive down from Maine for the game, and looking forward to hitting up the pre-game gathering at Wormtown. Fingers crossed that Frank Martin is our next men's basketball coach by then. Hopefully we get an exciting, competitive game. Let's go UMass!

"Medically disqualified" is such a weird phrase to use. I wasn't quite sure if this meant career ending injury at UMass or possibly career ending overall.

It's an NCAA term/process that allows the player to keep his scholarship despite a (collegiate) career ending injury. Medical DQ's can maintain their scholarship without that sum of money counting against the team's maximum allotment. Conceivably, he could still play at the next level (however unlikely) but the college career (at the very least) is over...
