Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March
So I have been thinking about this for a few weeks now, but does this team (roster wise) remind any of you of the roster we had Norm's first year? link to
2011-12...
2014-15
The first thing that comes to mind is the number of freshman (11 in 2011, 14 is 2014

) This came about for different reason obviously, but if you consider the number of players lost (3 unplanned?) it seems like Norm was looking for a similar class.
Looking at the composition (in terms of experience)
2011-12 14 freshman, 5 sophomores, 7 juniors, 3 seniors
2014-15 11 freshman, 9 sophomores, 3 juniors, 4 seniors
An interesting note is we have the same number of freshman D-men as we had in 2011, with the same later stage recruiting (in 2011 that had more to do with de-commits and Norm recruiting "his" guys)
in 2011-12 we lacked a proven goalie (Doug was coming off an injury laden freshman year), same sort of situation now [and some could argue better Boyle has proven more than Doug had]
There are some other noteworthy comparisons, but if anyone is looking for a bright side this season looking at the 2011 roster might help. The biggest missing piece as far as I can see is missing the leadership of guys like Riley Wetmore and Matt Ferreira, but maybe the experience of 3 straight trips to the NCAA's and 2 big wins at the Garden will help to make up for that?
