Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2
Nice way to end the first half of the season, game winner @ the end to go along with 45 saves by Swayman along with his fine effort last night of 50 saves {95 total saves for the weekend}. Confidence builder on the road and finally above .500
Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2
Not a great Q team but you play who is on the schedule and a sweep is a good thing for this team or any other team. Swayman played great, probably the biggest difference in past teams. I would have been happy with a split. Good way to go into Christmas break, nice present for all of us
Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2
Great weekend. Honestly, I thought a split would have been awesome. 3 Road wins in a row!! If ireland counts since it was neutral territory, if not back to Lowell then, not counting portland.
Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2
Very encouraging. Swayman is certainly the linchpin of this team, but they can score on a given night, too. It's hard to completely rule-out a bit of a run at the PW right now.
Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2
Kudos to the Black Bears. I've been following this thread most of the season and was hoping what you guys have been talking about was true. Turns out, you could have easily been talking about us. Maine never gave up this weekend. While they may have had some troubles, they stuck with it and kept coming at us.
The most interesting thing I saw all weekend was Red applauding when we tied the game at 3. Not sure what he was saying to the troops but whatever it was, it worked. They stayed focused and kept playing. That bodes well for your 2nd half. Good luck the rest of the way.
Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2
Well it has been a long time coming, but finally we have a goaltender the team can trust and after years of having 2 lines of scoring depth we have 4! Makes a big difference when you can roll four lines. Now need defense to continue to improve.
What I like the most about this team so far is how they respond. They were ticked at blowing the 2-0 lead against Vermont and settling for a tie and they blew them out of the building the next day. They fall behind 3-0 to the Q and respond to tie the game not once but twice and then blow them away. And last night blow a 3-1 lead in the 3rd and still find a way to pot one and get an empty netter. Past teams would have folded mentally.
Nice first half of the season! Look forward to seeing how they progress over the second half!
