tUMD @ CC: lets get high

Re: tUMD @ CC: lets get high

how bad is traffic going to be from denver to springs? I remember last time I drove through Denver on a friday afternoon it took 1.5 hours to get up to Westminster from 25/470 south. with possible snow and traffic it would be impossible to get to the arena in 2 hours and I should watch the game on TV? should be a bummer but wouldn't be ideal to get there an hour late either. 25 is awful, I imagine 225 wont be much better, only chance would be paying to take 470 to 25 but would probaably still hit a good deal of trafic upon getting to the springs. ill be leaving from commerce city
I like how this thread has very little do do with hockey, win or lose, at least both Duluth and Colorado Springs have more going for them than just hockey

I went last Dec (no snow) for the MN-CC series, stayed in Denver with friends. It's a PITA, always has been, always will. Honestly? Make it a day trip. There's enough to do in the Springs. Don't try and "time" it.

I'll just drink some beers and watch it at my place on the TV. Couldn't even drink more than a beer anyways since I'll be getting my class A tomorrow. Go 'Dogs!

FTR, we left at 4 for a 7pm puck drop. Barely made it both times. When you only have one major highway, there's a lot left to chance, which you don't want.

Oh you'll be fine, don't listen to the whiners. So what if you're a little late? I drive down from Denver for most Friday games. A little snow in the ground this morning but won't impact evening rush hour.

What part a Commerce City? If E470 is an option do it. Otherwise jut get on I25 you'll be fine. (Don't do 225 - construction.). They are wondering the highway north of the Springs so there will be delays. But if you leave by 5, 530 even, you'll be fine.

Re: tUMD @ CC: lets get high

UMD has played very well in the Springs. Here's to hoping that continues today! Go Bulldogs!

Re: tUMD @ CC: lets get high

Thorimbert starts tonight for CC, appears Marble was injured in last weeks exhibition game. Here is the LINK to that and a season preview of the TIGERS! ;)

Re: tUMD @ CC: lets get high

CC fans: thoughts on the new jerseys? I believe CC is the last team in college hockey to have dazzle jerseys.

Re: tUMD @ CC: lets get high

I would personally like to thank the UMD fans that made the trip, whether it was all the way from Duluth or just across town. You all showed class and your program took the time to go out of their way to wait while we remembered Winkler - hats off to Sandelin and staff for that.

I have a few choice words for the few DU fans in attendance. Don't talk smack at a memorial game and you should probably watch your team loose instead of mine, get a radio or the internet or something, maybe get a life...:mad::mad:

On behalf of the DU fan base (if I'm so qualified to speak), and without particulars, sorry to hear that you thought fellow DU fans dampened the experience. It's tough to combine rivalries, competition in general, and the sad circumstances that lead to memorials in the first place. I like to think that when I go down to the Springs as a third party, it's as a college hockey fan, not as an anti-CC DU fan. I try to lay low and take it all in, since it's so different to be neutral compared to Gold Pan games. Not everyone takes the same approach.

Glad to hear the tribute went well otherwise, the whole college hockey community was very saddened by the news about Scott. He was great to watch even though he was wearing black and gold.

Re: tUMD @ CC: lets get high

I don't post on here very often anymore, but I have to tonight. I have always had a bit of a soft spot for tUMD, and that increased ten-fold after tonight. It was a very emotional night for us with the tribute to Scott Winkler. I want to thank the UMD team, their fans who made the trip, and Scott Sandelin for the class they showed. I teared up when I saw the UMD players and coaches come out to their bench to watch. Scott Owens said that Scott Sandelin thanked him at least three times for letting his team be out there for it. But I prefer to thank the UMD program for wanting to be a part of it. As always, your hockey program is pure class, and I want you to know how much we appreciate it. THANK YOU!

Re: tUMD @ CC: lets get high

It is great to see that UMD earned so much praise for attending the pre game ceremony...but it seems to me that was an easy call. Most of the UMD players played against Scott and I am sure have memories related to that. What team WOULDN'T watch that tribute? It just seems like a necessity.

This was UMD's best game all year. Our freshmen are showing they can contribute (Although not the guy I thought would to this point *ahem* Toninato) and we scored a PP goal! It feels really good to get a split on the road. I believe UMD and CC will be fighting for home ice positioning and these points for UMD were crucial. It is odd to say that we got 3 points....I'll miss the old points system.

UMD will have their hands full with Notre Dame next weekend...

Re: tUMD @ CC: lets get high

Oh and Justin Crandall has scored all three of his goals this year from BEHIND the net. He'll just have to stay there and shoot more often.

Would have also been an easy call to keep the team in the locker room...let it be CC's moment while continuing whatever normal last-minute prep the coaches do with the team before the game. I certainly would not have criticized that decision - would have actually been a non-issue in my mind - but my respect for Sandelin and his program only grew with the decision to participate. Just my perspective.

Emotional night for the Tigers, but no excuse. A well-conditioned CC team should theoretically own the third period at home on Saturdays against an out-of-state team, but UMD just kept up with the dominance they showed all game and turned a close score into a rout. Congrats to them, and I hope the Tigers use this @S$-whooping to commit themselves to the level of effort it takes to win consistently in this league.

Great performance on Sat...Best of luck to the Bulldogs going forward!
