TRP: Free of political butthurt since 1999.

The PDC World Darts Championship is going on. The defending champion and #1 seed is an 18 year old kid named Luke Littler who looks like every English working class stereotype rolled into one being.

Meanwhile, one of the other competitors in the second round is 71 year old Singaporean Paul Lim. Lim made his first World Championship appearance in 1982, 25 years before Littler was born.
The ability of those guys is spooky.

Littler's walk on music is by Pitbull. Globalism, baby.

*Applies only to music. Globalism in darts need not apply.
Whaddya mean? Darts is eclectic! They have Englishmen, Scotsmen, and Welshmen!

And, weirdly, the Dutch. Why is darts big with the Dutch? Are they so tall they just reach over and stick the dart in the triple 20?

Came home today after convalescing at my mom’s after some surgery on my foot on Wednesday. Got my mail. A few Christmas cards. And my electric bill. Which was almost TRIPLE what it was last month. And one of my credit card bills showing two charges from REI.com which were not anything I ordered. Siiiigh. Called my card, they marked those charges as fraud and credited me and then cancelled the card.

ETA - And when I got home, there was a fly in my place. How???

They even have both kinds of Irish!

The World Darts Championship is definitely the quintessential British view of a “World Championship”. i.e. All the British home countries, the Irish, some (Western) Europeans, one Australian, and a few token spots to Asia and the Americas.

Actually the real reason is that the vast majority of qualifiers for the World Championships come from the PDC’s rankings and you earn ranking points by competing in tournaments. It’s just sheer coincidence that all but one tournament is held in the UK, and the one that isn’t is held in Europe. Oh, and the only way to play in ranked tournaments is by getting a Pro Card. Which you can only get by playing in the UK.

Needless to say it’s a pretty weighted system.
