Those Were the Days, or, Rekindling the Flame (Wars): BC visits UNH, Saturday, 11/21

Ahhhhhh, memories....

About the only thing that connects the present back to those precious moments of wasting countless hours of work into the run up to the BC-UNH matchups of yesteryear is that, for the moment, both teams are undefeated in HEA. (Though UMass may render that point moot on Friday). These two schools may have taken divergent paths over the past few years, but it doesn't mean we can't revive the disdain, if only for a brief Saturday night in November...

Have at it, people... Can FSteve come out to play??

Remember when UHN's program was feared?

Oops - sorry, a little early for that kind of escalation.

That's the spirit, HR!! :) On second thought ... BC doesn't even belong in the same thought as Harvard (or any of the other Ivies), so a more thorough examination of the school's unfortunate ties to illegal gambling and point shaving is probably more apropos. They love to gab about all that fun stuff. Oh, and it never hurts to remind them about their standing (or lack thereof) in the ACC since their wanna-be money-grab for the *big time* a decade or so ago.

Sad thing from a UNH perspective is, on the D-1 hockey competitive front ... at least until recently, UNH used to enjoy the historical overall edge in the series over BC, but that's probably since disappeared - in fairness, just like BC's old reputation as the program that just could never win the big one has disappeared, starting with Kolanos in OT in 2001, and then the 3-in-5 seasons run afterwards.

I'll let you take it from here ... :o

Who knew chuck murray is actually rover

How about when the whitt was a house of horrors for BC?

The game that I remember as if it were yesterday was the last regular season meeting in 2002-2003 between BC and UNH at the Whitt when the punk freshman Patrick Eaves speared senior Colin Hemingway in the corner, which the refs completely missed. UNH won the game 4-1, with Hemingway getting an ENG with Eaves still on the ice. Sweet! Of course, Eaves went on to have quite the successful NHL career with his dirty play.

Yes, those 173 career penalty minutes in 500 games. What a thug!!! ;)

It does make sense though that your lasting memory is from a regular season win over BC!

Joe Exter sends his regards.

BTW let's not give Eaves ("quite the successful NHL career") too much credit. Reminds me of some of the UMainiacs who used to say what a fabulous career of NHL riches Bpbby Corkum enjoyed ... all the while, he spent about a decade skating 3rd/4th line ice time with a series of mediocre teams. Ditto for Eaves, albeit with a slightly better selection of teams. Daniel Winnik (UNH) has had a similar career to both, and with a lot less fanfare entering his D-1 career. I'd say Eaves never really reached his potential (or his hype - you pick).
