I think the change is a huge negative. Atlantic City is not known as a family friendly town (unless your kids are into slot machines), and it's a much longer drive for the fan base in upstate NY and New England (not to mention the competing teams), and to compound that you have to go through terrible traffic around the NYC area to get there. Albany was easy in/out, and very family friendly. If you look around the arena in Albany, there are a lot of families with little kids there. I've emailed Steve Hagwell, the ECAC commissioner, to express my concerns, and suggest other folks with similar views do the same. Even if my team (Cornell) gets in, I don't think I'll go, or if I do I'll go alone rather than subjecting my kids to that drive and that city. The only positive I can see is it might attract more recent grads without families who would be into what AC has to offer.
