I think the change is a huge negative. Atlantic City is not known as a family friendly town (unless your kids are into slot machines), and it's a much longer drive for the fan base in upstate NY and New England (not to mention the competing teams), and to compound that you have to go through terrible traffic around the NYC area to get there. Albany was easy in/out, and very family friendly. If you look around the arena in Albany, there are a lot of families with little kids there. I've emailed Steve Hagwell, the ECAC commissioner, to express my concerns, and suggest other folks with similar views do the same. Even if my team (Cornell) gets in, I don't think I'll go, or if I do I'll go alone rather than subjecting my kids to that drive and that city. The only positive I can see is it might attract more recent grads without families who would be into what AC has to offer.

Not that it really counts because they could say it was in Minnesota and I'll still be there if Harvard is for the radio station but, yeah, if my team is in, I'll go in the future (four or so years from now when I'm not obliged to go and instead I'm choosing to). AC is closer to my actual hometown than Albany is (although I do have family in the Albany area) so it's less of a trip for me.
At the end of the day, it wouldn't matter to me where they play it, but I do think Albany was starting to get stale and they needed a new place.

I'm closer to Atlantic City than Albany, and Albany never seemed all that great even when I went there for NCAA Regionals, so I'm intrigued by this change. The Times Union Center always appeared to be half-full, if that, although the same thing may happen at Boardwalk Hall, especially with the casino competition. It's worth a try for a few years, anyway.

I voted for "never been and can't imagine that will change," even though I have been to Albany several times (and LP several times before that). I rarely make it these days (living in Europe will do that to you), though, so that was the closest option to my situation...

I live closer to AC than Albany, so I may be more likely to go if Cornell is not in it. OTOH, if Cornell loses in the semis, I may stay for the consy, and go home without staying for the finals.
But either way, AC is only getting my money for 1 hotel night, where Albany got 2.

I go to school in NYC (Live 30 minutes north of SLU otherwise), so this move is essentially a wash for me, other than having to cross the George Washington Bridge to get there now. I'll likely just commute in the event that I go, as it's a 2 hour drive for me, maybe a bit more, or I'll stay with relatives on the PA side of Jersey.
The issue here, of course, is we all have to subject ourselves to... Jersey.

However, I never went because RPI decided to suck since I started actively following college hockey (right around 2004). Had they made it to the ECAC finals, I would have gone, but now it will be much more difficult for me to get to Atlantic City. There's still hope that they make it to Albany this season... but I've been burned by my early optimism before.

I've been once: when Brown made it in 02-03, then promptly lost the Cornell while only registering 11 shots. Unless they move it somewhere close to me (Boston, Providence, Worcester, etc), I don't ever plan on going unless my team is involved.
But now? Now it's even questionable as to whether or not I'll go even if Brown IS in it...
