the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

Great win last night. Dusty bailed out lackluster defense several times (team defense, not just D play), and we saw scoring from both expected and unlikely sources. Keep working hard boys, and give yourself Sunday off... :D

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

I hear ya.

Goalie Dustin Carlson was the reason we won again. :) His saves were huge.

He needs more help in front of him. It was good to see our only Senior player get a couple of goals. " EH. "

" GO BUCKS GO. "

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

The boys came out flying tonight. Up 4-0 after the first, what else could you want? Kind of chippy affair after but Bishops shorthand goal was a backbreaker, and then leaving no doubt with a hat trick thrown in by Bishop. If we want to have any hope next weekend we will need the Dusty Carlson from this weekend.

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

Oh I forgot to ask, what happened in the other thread that locked it?

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

On to Miami! Lets hope the effort they gave the last 3 nights is there next weekend in oxford. Miami students on Spring break so tickets are to be had for us buckeye fans if we want them.

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

Someone back me up I just did the math. ND had 13 minutes of PP in the second period, but got out scored.

1st Matt Bartkowski OSU 2 CTH ROUGHING ATW 20:00 PP
1st Dustin Carlson OSU 2 CTH ROUGHING ATW 20:00 PP
2nd Matt Bartkowski OSU 2 BOARDING 02:49 PP
2nd Corey Toy OSU 2 SLASHING 07:13 PP
2nd Corey Toy OSU 5 HITTING FROM BEHIND 13:01
2nd Corey Toy OSU 10 GAME MISCONDUCT 13:01
2nd Ryan Thang ND 2 SLASHING 17:31
2nd Shane Sims OSU 2 ROUGHING ATW 17:31

Chris Reed was a +5

If we take stupid penalties like this next weekend , Miami will slam the goals in on the power-plays.

We need to play 5 on 5 VS Miami to have a chance. We can play with Miami and we proved it on our last game of the year. Now the real challenge is can we beat them 2 out of 3 games. Let's WIN the first game on Friday Night and then worry about the rest.

Let's do it BUCKS. Go for the " UPSET " of the decade and take out Miami. :)

" GO BUCKEYES. "

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

Final From Saturday, March 6th
Ohio State 8
Notre Dame 2
(Buckeyes Win Best-of-Three Series 2-0)

Here's your next installment of Perani Cup Lite. Since the Buckeyes swept, this is Part 2 of 2. Part 1 appeared as the last post of the previous thread.

Three Stars of the Game: Decidedly Unofficial and Just For Fun

Honorable Mention: Matt Bartkowski, Ohio State
So much went on in Game 2, there just weren't enough stars to go around. But we've got to take notice that Bartkowski opened the scoring last night. Spending some time down low on the PP, it's looking like he has a bit of power forward in him. That's a nice complement to the hard-nosed defense we count on from Matt -- and got last night.

#3 Star: Chris Reed, Ohio State
Reed seemed to be everywhere, and produced 4 assists with his efforts. But as with D partner Bartkowski, Chris' stalwart defense was just important as the offensive contribution. ND certainly didn't roll over in this game, putting on lots of pressure. But for the most part, the Buckeye D controlled the defensive slot, which was huge.

#2 Star: Sergio Somma, Ohio State
Eight goals is an offensive explosion, and Somma was right in the thick of things with two goals and an assist. The assist was a picture perfect pass that created the final goal of the evening. We'll also let Sergio be a representative of the PK. The PK was vitally important last night. The killers yielded a 5x3 goal, but weathered the storm on 5 other penalties, including a major.

#1 Star: Hunter Bishop, Ohio State
Did I mention the killers got a shortie? While there was a lot of hockey left to be played, Bishop's patient top shelf wrister put the Irish in hole from which they could not recover. Now about that pass from Somma. Hunter steered it into the net to complete his hat trick and a four point night. Nice to see, and nice to see a celebratory hat hit Buckeye ice.

We shouldn't get too giddy. After all, this was a #8 seed vs. a #9. But it's always great to beat Notre Dame, and the fact it was a playoff series makes it special. These were decisive, satisfying wins.

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

Not having been there Friday but looking at the stats who would you say should get MVP of that game, Picard for his 2 goals or Carlson for his saves?
Last night a lot of players for OSU stepped up and kept the momentum going but I'd give Carlson MVP for stopping 47 out of 49 shots. The last goal was a mental error on his part. If he had realized how fast the ND player was coming in on him he certainly would have speed up his effort to cover the puck which he could have done easily.

I've already tossed in my two cents on this; others should respond. But very quickly:

Back on the last thread, I gave my #1 Star to Picard. Head-to-head it was really a toss-up. Since I wanted to recognize the whole third line, I went with Picard. But it would have been very easy to defend giving the top spot to Carlson.

Or maybe you're suggesting that "MVP" is slightly different than "#1 Star."

Said mental error kept him off my list. Dusty was still great, and the error had no real impact on the game. But it gave me a way to get my list down to 4, which was still one more than the traditional allotment.

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

I forgot to mention earlier: GO BRONCOS
Because?

No disrespect intended, but I'm puzzled. Unless there's a stunning error on the USCHO Scoreboard, Western is done for the season -- having lost their series with Alaska in two straight.

I keep hoping the USCHO scoreboard was FULL of stunning errors all season long, but no, I did witness all that bad play from my team and watched the losses pile up...;) :D I read that too and looked at the scores just to make sure.

Congrats to OSU on a dominating performance this weekend. Tough, tough task ahead of you in Oxford. Miami is on a mission. Good luck next weekend.

Thanks IrishHockeyFan. Notre Dame is just having an off year and with Jackson as your coach I have no doubt that your off years will be much fewer and far between than it was prior to his arrival. Want to trade coaches?
One thing that tickled my funny bone last night was overhearing a ND fan complaining that the green jersey's never work for the football team and now they're making the hockey players wear them. lol!

Re: the Ohio State University Post-Season Thread

just bought 2 tickets for the first 2 games in oxford. Looking forward to the challenge next weekend hope the players and coache's are as well.
