The Long and The Short of It

The Sicatoka

Kicizapi Cetan
Create your six man units (3F, 2D, 1G) of current or former players for your team using the following criteria:

  • The first unit is the shortest last names in the history of your program.
  • The second unit is the longest last names in the history of your program.

I'm pretty sure for North Dakota on the 'short' unit: (Scott) Dub will be at forward, (Mitch) Vig will be playing defense, and (Aaron) Dell is the goaltender.

On the 'long' unit I foresee (Jacob) Bernard-Docker at one defense position and (Aaron) Schweitzer in net.

Have at it.

Make it a challenge? Fewest/Most letters gets to brag? :D

Re: The Long and The Short of It

A chance to use my Excel coding skills instead of doing work? Heck yeah I'm in!

Bowling Green:
Code:
Position	Shortest	Longest
G Dop Stankiewicz
D Foy Delgadillo
D Park Theocharidis
F Fry Samuels-Thomas
F Ham Arxoomanian
F Day Assenmacher
Total 19 75

Re: The Long and The Short of It

RPI

F Ens (Rick), Ens (Joe), Law (Barry) and several named Lee also. Let's not forget Donovan Ott although Smith got rid of him over the summer.
D Foss (Jeff) and Goss (Brent) and lots more. I can't think of a 3.
G Fox (Bob)
That's 20

This is harder.
F Stoyanovich (Steve), Angers-Goulet (Matt), Angers-Goulet (Alex) assuming hyphens are OK. (And there is Riley Boooooooooourbonnais ;) ) Is the St. of Jacques de St. Phalle allowed to be spelled out?
D Salvalaggio (Bruno)., Burgdoerfer (Erik). Mike Prapavessis too, I can't think of a 12.
G Constantine (Kevin)
68
Anyone think of someone else?

I count 68 for the long list.

Re: The Long and The Short of It

Vig's defense partner? (Brian) Lee.

And hyphenated last names count (see above).

Re: The Long and The Short of It

Rats. Correct. Didn't properly trim the trailing space which my length formula subsequently picked up. 68 but since hyphens apparently count it's 69.

I thought that hyphenated names count, but the hyphen does not count as a letter. If they do count as letters, I get to 70, since I have two names listed with hyhens.

I also assume that women's team members don't count. If they do, there is Nona Letuligasenoa on D, and if her real first name would count it is Logonaimanufaalava. :D

Would one count the apostrophe in O'Hare? Either way, you got me by 1 on the long.

Re: The Long and The Short of It

IIRC Harvard has had about a dozen hyphenated Tessier-Ashpool upper class twits of the year so they should blow everybody off the board.

Re: The Long and The Short of It

Of players that actually played a bit.

F Dee
F Roy
F Conn

D Ek
D Imes

G Roy

19 letters

F Schmidt-Vestrop
F Bellefeuille
F Jaaskelainen

D Montgomery
D Schurhamer

G Tortorella

69 letters

Re: The Long and The Short of It

I'll admit to using the UND Hockey media guide. I came up with:

Dub Yon Jost
Vig Lee
Dell
(20)

Christensen Castellano Charlesworth
Himmelright Roseborough
Schweitzer
(64)

Re: The Long and The Short of It

Colorado College does well with long names, not sure if they've had any 3 letter Dmen for the short cause. For Long:

Berardinelli-Christopherson-Vlassopoulos
Blumenschein-Christopherson
McElhinney

For a total of 74 without resorting to hyphens. There's at least 2 more 12 letter forwards on the bench with Krushelnyski and Kronschnabel.
