The Lame (Dead) Duck Congress -- who is Ed Roberts???

Came across this that the House of Reps is voting on today (Wednesday)

H.Res. 1759 - Expressing support for designation of January 23rd as "Ed Roberts Day" (5 Minutes)

Who is Ed Roberts and what do I have to do to get a day named after me? I do think that Ralph Baer needs a day to commemorate his 100,000th post on USCHO.

Seriously, what the heck are they doing up there? By my count they're going to run out of post offices to name on June 25, 2012 and highways on May 15, 2014.

Meanwhile nothing of importance is getting done....

And my hopes for the 112th Congress are getting progressively dimmer.

You had hopes?

You had hopes?

"A second marriage is the triumph of hope over experience." -- Samuel Johnson ;)

(Though I strongly suspect the current Congress always seems like the worst.)

For some of us, this would be a lot more than our second marriage!

Re: The Lame (Dead) Duck Congress -- who is Ed Roberts???

The last gasp of the Pelosi Congress

The Republican revolt threatens to derail Democrats' plan to pass the $1.27 trillion bill by a midnight deadline Saturday, when current funding for the government is set to expire.
...
Thousands of earmark requests -- pet projects of lawmakers -- are listed in the bill, worth about $8 billion.
We're going to need a bigger bucket to handle all these "drops"!

Re: The Lame (Dead) Duck Congress -- who is Ed Roberts???

John Thune, up and coming RINO-South Dakota, was asked why he hadn't taken his earmarks out of the bill, seeing as he had just voted to ban them.

“I guess I hadn’t thought about doing it,” he confessed. “The resolution that we passed applied to the next two years, it didn’t apply to this budget year [but] we are where we are now, the bill’s on the floor, but I think that we have an opportunity to strip earmarks out on the floor, we will. And we may get that opportunity.”

Re: The Lame (Dead) Duck Congress -- who is Ed Roberts???

What's so RINO about him? Republicans spend just as much money on pet projects as Democrats.

The prevailing school of thought among both parties in Congress is that if it's money earmarked for my state/district then it's important and necessary, but if it's money earmarked for anyone else's district, it's clearly wasteful pork and should be cut immediately.

That's exactly what a RINO is though. I guess you could make the point that 98% of the Republican party are RINOs, and thus it's a useless term...

Anyways, I guess my point wasn't so much that he put in for earmarks, but that his reasoning for doing so was flimsy at best.

I think what you mean to say is that honeybaked ham Republicans are Republicans, but they are CINOs.

Given the Dems caving to Goldman, passing HCR that fellates big pharm, and continuing the wars and warrantless wiretapping, you could pretty much say 98% of Democrats are LINOs.

Sure, that's probably a more accurate way to put it.

Dodged this one at least.

The effort by Senate Democrats to pass a $1.1 trillion spending bill to fund the federal government came crashing down Thursday night when Sen. Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, said he learned he wouldn't get support from a number of Republicans who had earlier indicated they might back the bill.

It will no doubt be a blow to bucket salesmen everywhere.

CINO has been appropriated by Notre Dame, Boston College, and Georgetown.

BTW, were you @ BWI last Saturday around 7 in the Southwest baggage area?

BC and Georgetown are actually JINOs.

I do not understand the second reference.

Re: The Lame (Dead) Duck Congress -- who is Ed Roberts???

Will people still be upset when Post Offices and highways are named by a Republican House as well, or will that be a valuable act of Patriotism?

It's actually spelled out in the Constitution that one of the things Congress has to do is name Post Offices. If you don't like it, amend the Constitution.

Yep, and Republicans have promised (we'll see if they keep it) to dedicate one day a month to it. That's it.

Why don't they just have a vote by acclaimation on all the BS (post offices, Iowa juniors bowling champions, etc) and then let Senator Bedfellow lather it up in front of the TV cameras in an empty chamber later? That would take about 6 seconds of floortime.

I believe there was a similar idea in that paper that Cantor was circulating a few weeks ago.
