This received seriously expensive and very extended air time (over 13 minutes) on one of Canada's National News programs, "The National", last night...

(And to the gutless commenter who didn't leave his name who thought the threads that I posted yesterday were "unnecessary, separate and superfluous threads"...notwithstanding the fact that they were separate topics which seemed to be lost on you...no one is forcing you to read them. And since you don't seem to be aware, unnecessary and superfluous mean the same thing so your grammar was...well...superfluous.

That was a great segment. You really felt for Tara Watchorn, clearly feeling a bit stranded on the Blades. One thing it didn't do was take any more steps towards clearing up the mystery of the NWHL's funding. The funding of a private organization is in a sense nobody's business, but it would be good to have a sense of how likely it is that the NWHL will be around with the same model in three years' time.

As for the comments - never read Internet comment threads! There is a jerkwad who often posts comments on women's hockey news stories on USCHO that are dismissive & degrading. It is obvious he is not a fan and must get some sick delight out of being a putz. Of course, we have pukechucker here who seems to go out of his way to try to start fights & be insulting but the signal to noise ratio here is such he can easily be ignored.

Not sure why it should matter who the investors are. Maybe they are simply hockey fans or maybe they need the loss to cover other things. As long as there are fans and building interest it will grow. Many leagues in several sports have started and failed or merged. Some with great backing and some on a shoe string.

What I believe matters more is if there will be a relationship between the two leagues

A merger would be the best thing to happen to both leagues, but paying the players a viable salary HAS to be first and foremost. Plain and simple, it's not a professional league if the players are not being paid. Make this business model viable and you may be on to something. Right now, the CWHL is nothing more than an extension of minor women's hockey. It needs to be dragged into the NWHL and be part of an honest to goodness pro league.
