The Best

Re: The Best

Every school has their share of yahoos, but in my experience Maine fans on the whole have been amazing, try to walk out of a game at Alfond without a Mainer asking you how your trip was or giving you a restaurant recommendation, I have been there for 8 games and always got some comment of that nature whether the game was a win loss or tie.

This year at the St. Paul regional during the BU v Minn game there were a couple middle aged wackos who were upset that BU's student section was making noise, but on Sunday during their game against UND and in the nearby bars after they were great to talk to and very friendly.

Re: The Best

When you're Cornell, being treated nicely at the hockey game just doesn't happen. Being "obnoxious pr!cks" is putting it nicely, but they're equal opportunity offenders.
Agreed, we kind of deserve the treatment we get. Can't dish it out if you can't take it. At the same time though RPI is no shining example of kind fans (though like Clarkson I respect their passion). Generally, ECAC barns are pretty hostile to opposing fans, but I've found the empty seats at Hobey Baker to be quite accommodating.

Re: The Best

Which part of the crowd treated you badly?
We were behind the goal closest to the main entrance. This was the NCAA regional in 2005, and we arrived pretty well cheesed off after not having gotten a 1 seed (only 4 losses on the season) AND having to play in Minnesota's building. Minnesota played the early game, and I think their fans were sick of "Let's Go Red" before the end of their first period.... One Minnesota fan's description I remember reading after that day was that Cornell fans are like Badger fans on speed. :)

The biggest beef with the rink staff is that they confiscated our cow bell, which plays exactly twice per game during stoppages in the 2nd and 3rd periods - lame.

I concur on the criticism of home ice venue for a regional playoff. That's bush-league stuff. Players and fans deserve better.

So long as you're willing to admit it. ;)

RIT has quite the passionate fan base as well, but I don't know about the hostility of the crowd. There was certainly a lot of extracurricular activities on the ice between the 1985 champions in the games I saw, but I guess it happens when you get a bunch of nerds together. ;)

Re: The Best

Never really ran into bad fans but I'd put Wisconsin's on the top when it comes to hospitality, friendliness and comraderie

Re: The Best

From my perspective following BSU around, most place have been very hospitable. North Dakota and Duluth have always treated us well. St. Cloud, well, I don't plan on going back.

Alabama-Huntsville fans have been the best, at least in what I have run into. As a Beaver fan, I may hate their team on the ice, but their fans are great! Would love to see them in the nWCHA so I have an excuse to head on down there and catch some games.

Re: The Best

Gopher fans are by far the most friendly and accomodating. Just go to one of their tailgates and you'll see. Everyone is welcome and I think everyone has a great time.

edit: can someone give osorojo a crash course in starting threads...with a focus on having a title that gives the reader a clue about what the thread is actually about

Re: The Best

The UW fans were calling the tUMD people *******. The only oine who chanted ******* at me was Biddy

both are 7 stars, can you give bit more? ;)

And yeah... I'm surprised Wisconsin is in here as well... Although some random badger fan bought a pitcher of spotted cow on state street afterwards... "because he felt sorry for how badly his team had ********** raped us on the ice." So there's that.

Badger fans, in my experience, can run the whole range. Some of them are great, nice people, fun to hang out with and others are complete and utter ******nozzles that should be pushed in front of a Greyhound bus.
