thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

I'm just glad that the quality of the broadcast seems to be improving.

Not as many obnoxious "mini-sportscenter" cut ins, the intermission reports actually talk about hockey and don't get into basketball, NBA, golf, etc. like they usually do.

Plenty of live look ins during intermissions.

This is a HUGE improvement over the quality of their coverage in years past.

Of course, I expect all of this to change when we get to having the Frozen Four on ESPN and ESPN2.

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

So why is the U still showing the 5-2 blowout instead of flexing to the OT game?

I'm guessing the contracts have built-in stipulations about primary games and such.

Either way, I have to give kudos to ESPN for what coverage they had, including showing the UM-CC game on ESPNClassic until the Yale-tUMD game was over.

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

I'd rather watch sock puppets than listen to Barry Melrose.

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

I'd rather watch sock puppets on Barney than listen to Melrose: "It's only a four goal deficit. They're still in this!"

Barry is still thinking Yale might win this one.

but, yes, kudos to ESPN for having the games on.

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

i could agree to this if I had access to espn3.com
I have to say kudos to the ABC affiliates in ND that stepped up and picked up their sister companies feed.

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

I still think NCAA hockey would get better coverage if they pushed it all back so that the regionals were the same weekend as the Final Four, instead of the Sweet 16 weekend. Much less TV space is being taken up with actual Bouncyball that weekend as what it is during the Sweet 16 weekend. There's 12 men's BB games and 12 women's games and 12 hockey games on the Sweet 16 weekend. Push the hockey regionals back to the Final Four weekend, and its only 3 men's BB games to schedule around, 3 Women's games, and then put the 12 hockey games on some of the better ESPN channels.

because all games are shown to completion, this happens often during bowl game overlaps as well
kudos for ESPN for pushing it on classic for the 1st 6 minutes

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

the NCAA needs to take a good look at their playoff format. alot of college hockey is the fans and zany stuff the students do. sticking teams halfway across the country in near empty arenas doesn't come close to conveying the great atmosphere of a college game.

One of the only nice things I'll say about TW Cable they finally came to an agreement to have ESPN3 available. For the most part the games were great and you could use PinP when 2 games were going on at the same time.

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

No Bob Norton has been nice. Now if they could find a way to get rid of Clay Matvick and Barry Melrose, that would be yet another improvement. Another would be finding a way to bring Tom Mees back to life. Man, I miss that guy.

Re: thank you to ESPN3.com for covering ALL the games

ESPN3 has been great this year. They have all the games available for replay too.

Matvick and Melrose have been solid this year. After several years Melrose is starting to learn some of the college rules. Someone should spend the next 2 weeks explaining that in college if you score on a delayed penalty you still get the PP. He wants them to give up the puck as soon as the arm goes up.

I miss Norton. College hockey is best with a blatant homer, no matter who they are cheering for.

He only wants them to give up the puck as soon as the arm goes up when they are going to go on a 2-player advantage, so they have a longer time on that 2-player advantage. Which makes sense.
