Swedish hockey club AIK (Stockholm) has agreed to join NHL "rival" the KHL. Interesting choice of team. It was one of the more successful Swedish clubs with titles in 1934, 1935, 1938, 1946, 1947, 1982, and 1984. It is also a part of the same sports club as arguably the most popular soccer team in Sweden (also the current holders of the Swedish title and Swedish cup) so there is a large potential fan base. However since being relegated from Elitserian to the 2nd division HockeyAlsvenskan in the early 2000s, they have not been able to make it back to Elitserian and have struggled with money and attendance. Does this, or will this, expansion of the world's 2nd best hockey league mean anything to the NHL?
