Suffolk University made a modest statement this past weekend with two, one-goal, losses to #14 Endicott College in CNE action. Friday night saw a reversal in dynamics with the Gulls (usually the ones being pursued) chasing the Rams all game long in shots on goal and on the score board. Suffolk went up 1-0 with a goal at 19:59 of the second period and held the lead until the at-home Gulls tied it with 28 seconds left in the third...and going on to win on a PP goal in OT. The second frame of the home-and-home at the Porrazzo Memorial Rink in East Boston, saw Endicott go up 1-0 in the middle period - a lead they would hold on to for a final 1-0 victory.
What is to note is that Suffolk, currently tied for 4th in points in the CNE, out-shot Endicott in two straight contests and gave the Gulls all they could handle. Progress, whether measured in inches, feet or yards, is still progress and though still figuring out their offense and powerplay, the Rams have maintained a very stingy defense this season (2nd in GAA 1.67) and are staying out of the box (conf. leading 3.22 pn/g). They have another tough test this coming weekend in a home and home with the formidable #6 Curry. Will be interesting to keep an eye on the hard working Rams who are looking to return to the playoffs in this inaugural CNE season.
