Streaming TV

We went off cable/satellite about 6 months ago, and have been subsisting on Netflix, ESPN3 and shows off the respective networks websites. I already have a Netflix enabled Bluray player, and have hooked my computer to the TV to watch some stuff (although the quality leaves something to be desired).

What I'm interested in, at this point, is something like Roku or AppleTV. Will I get much in the way of current TV off either via Hulu Plus? Off another subscription service from either unit? Or should I save the ~ $100 and just keep doing what I'm doing now? Thanks for the advice!

I set me parents up with Roku XS in the spring. They use it to replace movie channels and rentals. Using mostly streaming Netflix, Crackle, etc. They still use basic cable for the standard TV channels. They aren't technically inclined and it has worked well for them.

As far as current TV, you don't need to buy anything to see if Hulu has the shows you want. Sign up for the Hulu Plus trial and check out their library of shows to see if it meets your needs.

Wife and I dumped cable when we moved in March. We get ~20 over the air stations (Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CW, and ION all in HD, plus their secondary and tertiary stations). Netflix + Hulu Plus + crackle + NHL Gamecenter through the Roku provide the rest. Thinking about adding Amazon as well, but haven't needed it yet.

I dumped cable as well earlier in the year. I have a Roku XD and love it. I will be buying the Roku LT ($50) later this week just so I don't have to keep moving the XD from TV to TV depending on where I want to watch it. I have the NHL Gamecenter ($160) and MLB package ($100), as well as Netflix as paid subcriptions.

I also hooked up my older desktop to one of my TV's via VGA. But it gets its use from ESPN3 and Hulu. Hulu Plus is available on Roku, but after a month I realized there is not enough of the shows I like to pay $8/month, so I just use Hulu on the computer (Not on Roku) for the recent episodes. Also just got a new laptop with HDMI connectivity which works will with HD TV's.

I have heard that Roku is hands down better than AppleTV if you are deciding between the two. But I have no experience with AppleTV.
