St. Norbert 2016-17 Season Thread

Rocking 'The Stone'
Time to talk Green Knight hockey!!
Only two known recruits so far, but I heard we may have a top notch transfer on board...
Possibly from another NCHA school??
Still trying to confirm..

Re: St. Norbert 2016-17 Season Thread

Can now confirm that Jeremy Olinyk has transferred from Adrian to St. Norbert for his senior season.
Olinyk was tied for third in team points with Adrian last season.
Expect him to fill a top two line forward spot....

Re: St. Norbert 2016-17 Season Thread

I wondered how long it was going to be before someone else found that one out. :p

There are times I'm convinced I reside in a kaleidoscope. Nothing but chicken**** games. This is d3hockey. A hobby. Not a platform to verify your self-importance.

Did you mean to put this here?

P.S. I'll have a little more on Oly's transfer later. I'm at the office with a migraine. I've got a fun day ahead of me...

I have my ideas as to why he transferred and I'm semi interested in the full story, but I vote to keep it out of this thread.

Re: St. Norbert 2016-17 Season Thread

Excited about the Olinyk transfer. I think I'm most interested to see what happens in goal this season. There should be plenty of competition for the starting spot.

Most schools require that that the last 45 to 60 credit hours be earned at the diploma conferring institution. Is that not the case with St Norbert?

P.S. St Norberts (sic) got a bit of air time during the pre-game before the college football game held at Lambeau Field. Evidently SNC was the last college team to play there before this last edition.

Re: St. Norbert 2016-17 Season Thread

I apologize in advance as I know this may not be the most effective forum to ask this question in, but I am looking at catching some D3 hockey this season and would like some input on what are some of the best D3 arenas in Wisconsin (and Minny I guess) to visit. Obviously SNC has been a good team for many years now - but who has a "great barn" to play in that should be seen/experienced?

Thanks in advance for any help and info that is provided.

Re: St. Norbert 2016-17 Season Thread

My Picks (after the CCC):
1 -- Stevens Point.
2 - River Falls.
3 -- Adrian (if you can manage the Chicago traffic).
4 -- Eau Claire
5 -- Not much from the MIAC or remaining NCHA.

Aren't you forgetting about the Marathon County Park Ice Arena??? Nearly kill you if not prepared.... :)

Re: St. Norbert 2016-17 Season Thread

I've heard stories of Finlandia's arena from our faithful, where the locals came to the game on their snowmobiles, walked into the arena, and then brushed the frost off of their seats. Not exactly toasty there.

MSOE plays in very nice building; if you want to experience the next freezer outside of Marathon Park in Wausau, that would be Dunn County Ice Rink home of UW Stout :)

The frost on the seats is no joke. On the end of arena opposite the entrance there are some vents high up on the wall. If it's snowing outside...

Back when Joe Burcar had FU rolling the place could actually get fairly raucous. By dumb luck the one game I've been to there was the game they throttled MSOE 11-4 in the year they won the league title. '07 I think. Place was really going that night and that's a full blown hockey town. "FU! F who? FU that's who!"

Gustavus can be a great place to watch a game. When the Gusties are good it's one of, if not the best, in the West if it's the MIAC title game or a NCAA game. Have always really liked the rink as well. Sort of set down in a pit below the bleachers.

The one place I wouldn't go if atmosphere was my objective is SNC. Sorry guys, but most of the time that place is on par with a mausoleum. Now, if you want to see one of the best teams in the biz...then go to SNC. But for atmosphere? Not a lot going on, unfortunately. You guys need to get The Penguin and his cohorts back in there. And the guy who dressed up as Charlie Weis for Halloween, which still cracks me up...

Do they still consider Caveman a visiting legend at Finlandia??
