Soccer fans - need a little help

How does one deflate a soccer ball? I am assuming you can by an air pump to inflate it, but I wouldn't know where to get one. A sporting goods store?

I am sending a soccer ball to Asia and the person carrying it needs to have it deflated and I have no idea what to do here.

You should be able to deflate it with the needle they use to inflate it. And yes, any sporting goods store should be able to take care of you.

To be more specific, you want just the needle - unscrew it from the pump if it's attached. Wet the needle and stick it in the port in the ball. You'll have to squeeze on the ball pretty hard to get all the air out - essentially "folding" into a hemispherical shape at the end.

So, funny story on this subject....

When I was working for Dick's Sporting Goods, we carried the Jubalani soccer ball... It's the authentic game ball for international play... The ball retailed for $150 :eek:

Because of the high price, they needed to protect their investment... So word came down from corporate that we needed to put a "spider wrap" on the ball (the cable alarms that you usually see on boxed items like electronics and whatnot)... Well corporate in their infinite wisdom never figured that people would come in with inflation needles and just deflate the ball and remove it from the wrap... At our store, we lost 5 of the dang things before we got the OK from corporate to put a display ball in a glass case by the register and sell them out of the back... Not surprisingly, it took us about a year to sell our 4 remaining balls, only 1 of which we got the full $150 for... The other 3 went after the ball was placed on clearance for around $70...
