So, what does this mean?

Re: So, what does this mean?

The "Other guys" *cough* D3hockey.com *cough* *cough* have their computer rankings out for January 22nd.

I was wondering (Because I don't know) do these rankings mean they have Utica ranked #1 with Norwich now? I thought they had Utica ranked fourth in their last poll?

Yes, using NUProfs numbers his PC tells you that Utica is now even (number wise) with Norwich. This is not a human poll, its a computer. Another poll, that is all.

PS Don't forget to turn your head when you *cough*

Re: So, what does this mean?

I will allow NUProf to give a more detailed answer, but the short version is....YES!

If you look at the last column, Utica's Rating increased by 25 while Norwich's Rating decreased by 6. This is largely due to 2 factors: Utica's win against a strong Hobart team and Norwich's win against a weak St. Michael's team.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. That's pretty cool then if we're number wise, tied for the #1 spot. I think this weekend will tell a lot and the rankings will definitely shift after this weekend depending on how Utica does more than Norwich, because Norwich has two very weak games on tap for the weekend while Utica has two ranked conference opponents at home to please.

It means that d3hockey/d3boards.com is significantly better than this site and we should all move over there. Seriously.

Um, just imagine the preceding was stated more tactfully, I guess.

You know what? You're so right! What have I been doing since 2008 posting and becoming a regular on here! Thank you for opening my eyes!

Straight up, The D3hockey.com poll is much more realistic and a lot less comical than the biased USCHO.com poll THIS season. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

Re: So, what does this mean?

Very little. We have about 6 weeks until the white cloud emerges from the smoke filled room. Then we will know for sure whether we have another "Utica was robbed thread!!" or we wish the Pioneers luck as they are sent to Brunswick, Maine to play Bowdoin.

Re: So, what does this mean?

They have the top ranks right, but the rest are just as laughable or more so than on here. Wis. - Superior and Stevens Point at #15, and #9? They are 10-8 and 11-7. Neither have a winning record in their own conference! Plattsburgh 8 places behind Williams? Didn't they just beat them? St. Anselm better than PSU, Trinity and Geneseo?

I don't buy it.

Again, I will let NUProf defend his numbers, but I'll take a stab at it too...

I think a large part of the reason why St. Anselm is ranked so high is that the ECAC-East is having a good year. The conference from top to middle is very strong. The bottom of the conference is nothing to sneeze at either when compared to some bottom tier teams in other leagues. Plattsburgh, Trinity and Geneseo are hurt by their conference-mates poor OOC records. Do I think that St. Anselm is better than Platty, Genny or Trinity? No. But when crunching numbers, St. Anselm's ranking comes out higher in large part do to the fact the their opponents have performed well (generally speaking).

The same applies to Wisconsin-Superior and Wisconsin-Stevens Point because the NCHA owns the Western Region and generally perform very well against the MIAC and MCHA.

I prefer these numbers ;)

I can give plenty of reasons why I dislike KRACH - to begin with there is a certain artificiality to it, and I'm not really sure if the division 3 hockey schedule really meets all the assumptions for the use of logistic regression.

I agree, but I won't argue with any poll that has the Bowdoin #1!
