Re: SHU @ RPI, Monday 12/31/12 4 PM

Sacred Heart has played one game this season against an ECAC opponent, losing to Princeton, 4-3.

In that game, Princeton started second-string goaltender Sean Bonar, who surrendered three goals on six shots and left with the Tigers trailing, 3-1, early in the second period.

Princeton rallied to tie the score at the end of two and won it with a goal in the third, despite being outshot, 20-5, in that third period.

Is this a game RPI should win? Yes. But they could have their hands full if they take this team too lightly.

Incidentally, for those going to the Princeton game on Jan. 12, remember the name Andrew Ammon, who scored all four goals in that Sacred Heart game.

Re: SHU @ RPI, Monday 12/31/12 4 PM

Considering our record, and where we want to be, we should take no one for granted.
We had better be ready for Sacred Heart, or they could ruin everything we have done the last month.
Come out hard and strong and put these guys away early.

Re: SHU @ RPI, Monday 12/31/12 4 PM

We all know that no one should take a team for granted. I am sure that SA and company are saying the same thing, and the players know it too. The problem is that there will be a natural letdown after SCSU and before BU and UNH. To me it would make sense to play Fulton, Commers, et al. who haven't been playing and should be hungry.

RPI Gamenotes..... http://www.rpiathletics.com/documents/2012/12/31/2012-13MHKYGameNotes_SHEART.pdf?id=1415........ This could be the epitome of a, "trap game", with the next 3 games vs a Top 10 team. Does SA give some game-ice time to some who've not played recently or go with who will be playing (barring injuries) against those teams. Might be a chance this afternoon, remember it's a 4PM game, to get the PP on track also. Does SA give Merriam a shot? It's now obvious Kazzy is #1.

Re: SHU @ RPI, Monday 12/31/12 4 PM

Does anyone know if RPI TV is streaming the game? There doesn't seem to be a link up yet...I wonder if being on break means they won't have enough people to do it.

I don't know for sure, but my recollection has been that in the past they have used fewer cameras.

Living down here fairly close to Baker Rink-we have seen this kid a couple times. Not sure if that 4 goal game was representative of his play in many other games but when we saw him he showed that he deserves a lot of attention out there.

...what about Merriam? Do you start him..especially given Kazzy's illness -- who's status is unknown (are there any reporters out there....Buehler ???? WOuldn't Merriam be hungry too?

Absolutely spot on. We have not shown that we have the goal scoring ability to storm over anyone. If this turns out to be a penalty filled game, who knows what can happen. On paper this one looks like a game we should win, but every game is difficult when you only score 1 or 2 goals. Normally when that happens against a weaker team we get all the postings about running into a hot goaltender. Most often that is just bull-good scoring teams do just that-score. When you are given 6 or more power plays you really have to take advantage. The teams that have done so recently (Union, Quinnipiac, Yale) have great success pretty much in every game and every time no matter who they play. When 1/3 to 1/2 of a game is spent on special teams-you live and die with them. You have to beat the teams your are supposed to before you think you can compete with the top echelon teams (and we get to try that twice very soon). Just my 2¢

I'd play him unless Kaz is 100%. This is a game the defense just has to shut them down completely and gives them few chances. That way even if we score our usual 2-3 goals the game is not up for grabs late in the third.

I already wrote this elesewhere, but I wonder if Tinordi is injured. He scored our only goal on Friday, and now he sits.
