Seems totally unrelated to VT and coincidental that it happened during a traffic stop on campus.

They obviously are sensitive given their recent past, so it makes sense for them to take every precaution in securing the campus.

Thinking the shooter wasn't a student?

Regardless where this were to happen I would hope all campuses would take every precaution necessary for the safety of all.

There was an unconfimed report that it could be connected to an armed robbery a town or so over. Seems to fit the story.

If you're a criminal looking to avoid detection, a college campus is about the last place you'd want to go in this day and age. One phone call from someone who saw you with a gun = lockdown and instant media frenzy.

Apparently they're in a study period between classes and finals, so at least that means less students were probably out and about and it was probably easier to lock it down.

Alert lifted as of 4:31 pm, but nothing on whether they caught the person.

They won't confirm it at the news conference but an officer "saw someone" and then they were dead when he turned back around or something like that. Apparently the guy just walked up to the car as it pulled someone else over and shot the cop.
