For instance, will the real U-M please check in. (UM?). Why does UND's mascot create so much hate, while ND's mascot gets a pass (do we drop the 'U' when we're talking DII football? What happend to the 'U' for the U in South Bend?) If I said MSU in the broader D1 Hockey sense, do people know what I'm talking about?

Does anyone have "acronym envy"? When a school had to drop its program (or add a program) was your school's en vogue acronym changed (for all you college hockey history buffs)?

What's the best ASCII (A) representation of your letters (L) you've ever seen, |A| > |L|?

I know what you're thinking, but it's June. Give me a break.

Even though we are The University of Denver, we are always referred to as "DU". Same with the University of Colorado, always "CU", but they don't play hockey so who cares??

The B1G acronyms for hockey:

Michigan is UMAA.
Ohio State is tOSU
Wisconsin is UW
Michigan State is MSU
Minnesota is UMTC
Penn State is PSU

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is referred to be acronym RPI except by Clarkson fans who think that it is funny to use RIP instead. :)

And by RPI officials who refuse to use any acronym and insist it be called Rensselear (probably so everyone will know how to spell it ;)).

St. Lawrence University's is comprised of THREE letters, not four.

Boston College - BC
Boston University - BU
Maine - Pretty sure it's usually the state spelled out, although I've seen UMO sometimes
UMass Amherst - UMA
UMass Lowell - UML
Merrimack - MC
New Hampshire - UNH
Northeastern - NU
Providence - PC
Vermont - UVM

University of Maine is just ME same as the state, because the hillbillies can then just refer to their mail if they forget the abbreviation.

University of Vermont is UVM, which stands for Universitas Viridis Montis for those that understand other languages.....

Right, but NESN and other telecasts don't usually put "ME" up on the top of the screen.. do they? That would look pretty strange.

I think the other letter is for your first name - think of it as a tribute! :)

edit: there are far too many "CUs" out there, but what else are we gonna be? Though now that I think of it, the university has trademarked the letter C, so maybe we should just use that.
 
Oooohhhhh. That's always bugged me. I knew Vermont wasn't a compound word. Hhmmm. UVM. Never cared for the t in front of OSU. (tOSU)

They usually spell out the whole word, you know to avoid confusion....
